Hey Guys,
I'm fairly new to the business, so I need you guys to help me out. I had a guy call me the other day looking for an estimate to mow, edge, weed-eat, and clean up his yard. He said it was a good sized lawn when I talked to him on the phone. Well, when I got out, there it was about 1.5 acres. It would take about an hour and a half to 2 hours to get it done with me and the other guy that works with me. He wants it done weekly also. I quoted him $80.00 a week to do everything. Does this sound too high to you? He didn't act like it was real expensive, but he said he was having another guy come out to give an estimate later on too. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for your time.

What kind of equp. are you using? I think you may be in the same boat I was in before I got my ztr. I couldn't really say without seeing it, nor could anyone else. But unless it's got LOT's of obstacles or extreme slopes/ or undulating terrain,or excess edging "I" would say $55-60, but again that's ME. Let us know more. The reason I ask about your gear is, when all I had was a 21" walk behind or 30" rider, I over bid everthing.

I'm sorry, we have (2) 21" mowers and (1) 48" riding mower. The man that lives there told us that it usually takes him about 5 hours to get it done with a push mower. That's why I figured it would take us about 2 hours. The back yard also has piles of junk lying all over it that would definately prolong the job. Thanks for the reply BTW, txlawnking.

No problem at all, ya'll. LOL Seriously though, if there's junk every where that's a separate job that I call "a clean-up" in that case I'd say to give him a separate bid for clean-up. PM me if you wanna know more.

maybe his junk is useful for something who know what kind of junk are you talking about?

Thanks for the info. I don't think he wants us to cleanup his junk pile though. It's a bunch of ply wood and old outdoor furniture and other stuff I can't remember.I just know that it's going to be a PITA to mow around all of it. Thanks again guys.

$80 sounds very reasonable for that size yard.

In that case yeah, $80

Most of my lawns take less than 25 min. start to finish ( unloading & loading of equipment ) and we get an average of $35 per yard, so yes in my humble opinion $80 just does not sound too high.

$50.00 per acre = $75.00 + PITA. PITA factor is how you feel at the moment.

I'm glad to hear some replies back from you guys. I don't feel so bad now about quoting him that price. Now I just hope he calls back. Thanks again!
