Just curious, is there a temp. that you will not work in or one that you wait to arrive before you get at it. Or maybe your just one gung-ho summpinernother and charge out no matter what conditions are.

I really ain't a big fan of cold weather so I kinda wait till it's at least above the freezing mark. I know some of you Yankees can handle it with no problem but this winter is terrible compared to the last 3 or 4, and today is the first official day! I'm used to 55-60 deg. temps all winter long, a cold day would never get out of the 40's and a real cold day wouldn't get out of the 30's. I think I'm in for a long winter and may have to make some adjustments mentally, can't just sit around, got work to do. I suppose if it stays this way very long I will become acclimated to the new and improved, bug free weather but it's going to be tough, and I will fight it tooth and nail.

Oh well, it's 32 so I better get to puttin' those layers of clothes on.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Homer

P.S. At least it has rained a little this fall, maybe that trend will continue.

It all depends. Forty degrees is around the cut off point for me in my old age.

Forty calm and sunny is better than fifty and fully overcast with a 25 mph NW wind.

Besides all this snow (only 3" outside my window) and cold weather keeps the crime rate down for the gangbangers stay inside more.

Plus I need at least 3 months off a year for computer science projects.

I got a call a couple days before thanksgiving to mow a lawn one mor time. I had a choice of two days so I picked the sunny one . Both were below freezing a little and half the lawn was froze and frosted out. I did not like it but the customers lawn had grew enough to be mowed again.

I agree with the 32 degree cut off HOMER stated. The cold does keep the hoodlums indoors. Here in MN it is 11AM and it is still -7 degrees. The local crime that occurs this time of year is vehicle theft. People start their cars to warm them up, then go inside while the temp become comfortable inside the car. Well a thief afoot would rather drive away in your warm running car than walk in dangerous temperatures. It is a ticketable offense to leave your unoccupied car running.

We will go no matter how cold, as long as their isn't snow stuck in the beds or on the grass .. I mean, a certain amount is ok (like just a trace), but when you get over .1 of an inch, it starts becoming a problem .. so, then we just wait.

We will be out when it's 2 degrees out, as long as it isn't snowy ... (I'm glad we're done for the year though .. it's like -20 degrees everyday with windchill) ...

I live in missouri and I had put a lot of work off until the temps fell . It was getting to be the nice weather to do the hard work, then 2 weeks ago the temps went into the single digits and has never came back up,also about 14-16 inches snow so I will have to wait till this melts so I can get all the work I planned to do done before spring when I get too busy to do it.I don`t mind working when its 20 degrees and the work is a lot easier to do for me,also these are bid jobs so I can work faster get done quicker.

It's 4 degrees here and I just got home from plowing since 3AM a couple hours ago. Going back out in 2 hours since it's drifting now and the chill factor is 28 below zero. Later tonight it will get down to 10 below zero with chill factors of -45 or more. My cut off of temperatures for going to work is if my truck won't start.

Want to come up and help me Homer. :)
I can see you shivering now. :)
Better yet, can I come down and help you?

As long as the wind isn't blowing I try to go out and work. Sometimes it can be difficult to get motivated though.

homer, i just got in from 2 leaf jobs. the last hour & fifteen minutes in a pretty good rain. has the water made it to you yet? think the forecast is calling for rain to stop tonight & a low of 16 in the morning. that will be a mess with all this moisture...think i'll stay off the roads tomorrow. as far as how cold is too cold, if i got work to do then i just go.

I must be terribly spoiled. If it is under 55deg, forget it. I wait until it warms up.

It's 6:00 here Tranum and it started raining just a little while ago. I got out today and it felt good, got into the upper 40's which is really just right cause the wind wasn't blowing too much. I see I'm not the only wuss here. I'm going to start forcing myself to get out earlier no matter what, heck I ain't gettin' nothin accomplished this way. Come on down Eric, I know you want to see how the rednecks live. I can take you to places........................LOL. Your makin' too much money with all that good white stuff to break away, I understand.

55 degrees? Man! We consider that perfect working weather! You can ALWAYS dress around it, it's just when it gets so hot, you can only go down so far. Homer, invest in some good Carhardt bibs and a coat, and you'll be all set! Get the insulated ones but definitely not the extreme cold ones. I have a pair of the extreme artic bibs that I wear when it gets down around freezing, and I sweat in the things. Just way to warm. One of the problems is the back. It comes up too high, and is cut straight across the back and I start sweating between the shoulder blades first. I need a pair of the medium ones that have insulation, just not as much.

Hey Homer I am with you. I'm here in central Mississippi and it hasn't been getting out of the 40's. I work when I have to but I prefer for it to warm up. I have had enough winter, bring on spring.

It's -9 degrees with a chill factor of -45 degrees. I just got home from work, plowing out snow drifts in driveways. I did feel a chill in the air.

I am also a wuss, I don't like to work when the temps are in the 30's. Nor in the rain or snow.

I have 4 more leaf clean up's today and I will be through for the year. High's today in SW Arkansas will be around 42°, so I should be able to get everything done.

Ya'll have a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

In southern Ohio it's 5 degrees this morning and I'd give anything to be out cutting grass in the thirties. That snow stuff clogs up the deck though.

Homer I can relate to that. Successful lawn care people here in the hotter regions of the country can tolerate higher temperatures for longer periods than most people. But when it comes to cold weather i have to make myself go work. Yesterday it remained in the 30s all day. But the wind wasnt blowing and it was dry enough to blow leaves. So i waited until the temps got above 30 and then went to work. I at least want it to be above 30 and no wind and have my long johns on and a thick coat. We got a couple of inches of ice out there now from an ice storm that started yesterday afternoon. What a pre winter. At least it hasnt been boring so far. But with it raining/snowing/sleeting/windy not much work getting done.
Eric you get to stay in that nice warm truck lol. i was trying to grease my tractor yesterday the grease was so thick and my hands were freezing. Time to go back in is what i felt like.

wow! i finally decided to join in and not just read comments. Which brings me to a reply. I live near Cleve. Ohio, in the snow belt. When we do leaf clean-ups we also prep the plows so rest assured before we get done it will snow. Got lucky this year got all the jobs done, but the very last one we were sweeping the last 10 feet of avery heavily bedded yard as the snow sssssstarted it came on so fast that leaf blowers were now snow blowers. i looked for my other worker and couldnt see him ten feet away. wow, lets fire up the vac truck and get out of dodge. well ther it sits till spring because the ground has been snow covered since NOVEMBER 21. Well thats my story and im sticking ti it. Its ohio wait an hour the weather will change. later jammin jer....

Thanks for joining jammin! At least we don't have to deal with the snow here in the deep south, of course you don't have to drive too far to find it here lately!

How long have you been "lurking" in the bushes. Curious to find out why people hesitate to join up and share their wealth of knowledge. Feel free to post any of your experiences and ask any questions you want, your answers never cost a dime.
