I am putting a flagstone patio for a client, and need to know what ist the best sand to use under the flagstone. I already have a 6" base of crushed aggregate. Our local quary has Mason sand, #23 sand and #24 sand. What would you use?

I have used mason sand in the past with good results.

I don't think I would use mason's sand. I know it can cause problems in a paver patio because it is so fine.
I would probably go with the 23's (which is concrete sand), or maybe even the 24's. I think masons sand under flagstone is too fine and would be more likely to wash out in a heavy rain.

How about finely crushed gravel, or decomposed granite, if thats available there.
