I just purchased a new riding mower with a 25 HP Kohler that back fires when I turn the machine off! Is this normal? If not, is there any quick fixes?
Thanks in advance.

I had one do the same thing if I left the throttle at mid to high range. I was told you should slow the engine to the lowest throttle position before shutting down. It worked for my unit.

Normal. Just let it idle for awhile before you cut it off and it should stop.

Thanks for the help!

Let idle for about 30 seconds to a minute. Allows you to raise gate and strap machine down. Then just as you switch the ignition switch OFF, move throttle to at least 1/2.
This WILL stop the backfire.
You can also shut off at 1/2 throttle, but I don't like the "spin-down" of an engine from higher RPM.
