i finally got around to getting the pictures off my digital camera. I recently bought a 2004 Gravely 260Z w/ 25Kawi to complement my old school gravely PRO-50 - 50" 14Kawi. My weakest link at the moment is my trailer. As you can see i definitely need a larger one. I feel like such a redneck driving around like this, but for now its getting the job done.

The truck is a '94 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with 118K on it, it pulls all my equipment just fine, its the braking that is a little like a thrill ride in emergencies. My next trailer will definitley have brakes on it!

heres a close up of the trailer arrangement... yes, those are car ramps under the WB with it sticking 2' over the tongue.

i bought a bugshield and had it lettered....

and i had a magnet done, orginally it was going to be cut to the shape of CT, however we changed the my company logo and went with boring old rectangle. I had coroplast job-site signs as well as t-shirts made up that all incorporate my logo.

it is a 6x10, and yes, i'm in the process of buying a larger trailer. i hopefully will have it in another week or two.

I like the bug shield, different than most of the trucks I see.

Around here, Mr. DOT man would redflag you.

What's the weight rating for the trailer? AND in MN you're required to have breaks with a breakaway switch.

WOW ;)

It DOES look red necky!

Now all you need are some big ole air horns, lighted bumper guides, and mudflaps with the Ka-Rome nekid ladies on them.

As for trailer brakes. Usually single axle trailers have under a 3500lb GVWR and are exempt from state inspection and brakes.

its a 3500gvrw. i'm well under that with the z @ ~1150 and the wb @ 500 and trailer weighs in at about 750 i believe.

I'm looking at a 7x16 big tex trailer, i can't decide if it'll be too large for the dodge though.

I would use ramps and load the walk behind on the trailer then up the ramps onto the truck. This way you have the mower on the truck and ztr on the trailer.

I think you will be fine with a 16' trailer and your Dodge. Just make sure the trailer has brakes.

BMFD92, the mower will not fit from the side, i tired.

i think i'm going to look at trailers today since its rainin.

I have a feeling thats illegal

07-14-2004, 09:48 PM
Hey BSDeality, How much is that 7x16 gonna cost ya? I am looking for a bigger trailer too. R U going to get a side gate for your WB?

07-14-2004, 10:22 PM
I'd love to know why you all think its illegal? the loads are all secured with 3" straps. it ain't goin no where.

anyways, i went and looked at a Big Tex 60SP. 16fter. tandem w/ elec brakes on one axle. $2289+tax.

and yes, I'll fab my own side gate.

07-14-2004, 11:39 PM
I would think its illegal, because trailers are made to have things placed in/on them, not on top of them hanging off the sides.. If that strap came loose the mower is gonna bounce right off the trailer..

Anyway, the price you got on the trailer isn't bad. I paid $2649 + tax for my 6.6'x16' Ez-Dumper landscape trailer w/ brakes. For some reason trailers are alot more expensive around here.

07-18-2004, 08:44 PM
Thatís not illegal. If you are going to base it being illegal off the fact it hangs off the side then the trucking industry would be out of business. Semis use the same straps and have stuff stacked up and hanging over the sides all the time. Also if that is illegal what about the trailer for my trencher and I believe places that rent trenchers use the same trailer which is just basically two ramps the trencher sits on with no sides.

Though it isn't the safest thing and looks like it would be a pain to load I can't see a cop writing you a ticket for it.

the PITA factor is high, mostly because it limits my turning radius. so tight manuvering is out of the question cause the casters make contact with my bumper if i turn too sharp.

i only unload the WB on 2 accounts (sometimes 3) during my regular schedule so for now i'm just dealing with it. I found a 16' trailer that a buddy of mine is going to sell to me once he gets his mason dump.
