I don't know anything about skidsteers. . .but if I were a betting man, I'd bet for Deere. I've been impressed with every piece of Deere equipment I've operated (especially my Deere 757, and all their commercial lawn equipment). But, my good friend probably the best and most sought after heavy machinery operator in the state with lots and lots of experience says that of all the equipment (mainly trackhoes) that he's operated, Deere is superior by far. In fact, with his favorite Deere trackhoe, he is so precise with it, he can tap you on the shoulder with the bucket. . .so if that doesn't impress upon you why I vote for Deere, I don't know what will.

How do you rent a bob? In AZ you must be 21 to 23. Are the requirements different in OH?

I demoed a Cat 247 for several days. An excellent machine. I am going to demo a Bobcat T190 soon.

I bought a Cat 246 in April and I've been very happy with it. I've used Bobcat, New Holland, and Gehl and they are good machines, too. Truthfully, the only ones I've really heard negative things about was the Deere. But this is the same as Ford/Chevy/Dodge, everybody has their favorites. Use what works for you and makes you money, that's the bottom line.

In all seriousness Ive been able to rent a bobcat since i was eighteen and before that i just had my dad sign the papers. Those rules are dictated by the rental companies around here. I have operated a 700, 800, 900, and t300 series also toro dingos

Bottom line is to research everything and demo the ones you think you might like. Skidsteers are like trucks any more, just like someone else mentioned. They all are overall good, but some excell in different areas than others.
Personally, I fit better in a Deere or New Holland than I do in a Bobcat. I'm 6' 2", and the foot pedals in those fit better than the BC. But I like the Bobcat dealer support better.... Each one has it's quirks.
Demo, demo, demo, demo! Can't say it enough! DEMO!

Any of the ASV, cat, new holland, deere, bobcat. Stay away from the smaller companies. The cheap ones don't last. Like feliz said demo them. I like the ASV because of the tracks they have. I can't wait until i can afford a RC-50 or RC-60.

i would agree, i like the new holland machines.
Run as many different machines as you can and decide from there. Deere is soon to release their 300 series machines. If you want a Deere then I would wait. I think it is pretty well accepted that the 200 (I and II) series Deeres were a dissapointment to loyal Deere customers. Check the resale on them if you don't believe me. We run CASE machines but don't take anyones word on something as expensive as a skid steer. Demo them all and make a choice.

How about Mustangs? Anyone have experience with these?

New Holland LS170 (smaller jobs) or LS180 (big jobs) is a great bet! Runs like a champ, lifting capacity is superior (for its weight), and the visibility is better than ALL the rest (this is a BIG help in tight areas).

We are on our third New Holland and i would venture to say i would stay with them as i have demoed bobcat, gehl, daewoo, mustang, and have operated a friend's deere and not had the visibilty, superior grading, smooth ride, and balanced lifts that i have in my New Hollands. After you demo them all buy the New Holland.

Demo them all. in the past, i always liked new holland but the CATs have alot of things going for them. For me, CAT was the most comfotable and i loved their hand controls. But you have to try them all. Dont take our word for it or a dealer's. Whatever a dealer sells is the best!

DO NOT GET THE ASV RC-30. I've been using it for about a week now on rental, its now got 35 hours on it, and I started using it around 16 hours. This thing is so underpowered, I've blown 50+ injector pump fuses. Demo different brands, and run them into the ground and see what takes your type of work the best.
I think ASV had the potential to make a great machine, I know this RC-30 handles hills great, and its got great tracks, and a CAT diesel engine, but a few minor adjustments and it would run great. I don't know how durable the aprts are since it's only got 35 hours on it.

The RC-30 was desihned for a specific purpose and takin on full scale/size Skid Steer dutues is NOT what it is for. Sounds like the machine you demo'd was flawed from the get go.
I bought the ASL300 last Spring and have had no issues with it. Got almost 200 hours on it and purchased forks this summer so I could move half pallets of sod around. I lift half pallets of sod which is at limit and never blown anything. For small companies that want to keep a asmall labor force this machine is a perfect fit. Just remember if you want to do serious work
cosistently you are lookin at the wrong machine.

In my opinion there are only two choices
my first is CAT....I've been around them for quite a few years now and they are #1 in every category. We've run drills, backhoes, sweepers, rakes and most other attachments and the best part is our hoe. You don't need to leave the cab to run it, instead the controls fold in to the cab so you never leave the main operating seat of the machine. The hand controls are unbelievable, lifting capacity is exceptional, power is great, I could go on and on. We were allowed to demo both their smallest and their largest machine when we bought ours and in the end we went with the largest because of its lifting capacity, ability to handle the weight of the hoe, the hand controls and power.
my second choice would be bobcat
I've had very bad experiences with new holland for some reason.....although I know many people who swear by them.
I don't know anyone with a deere and have never heard a thing....that must mean something.
Case is okay
Like someone said before don't buy the cheaper brands, you get what you pay for. Mustang is junk, Gehl is junk
In the end demo Cat, Bobcat, New holland

BOBCAT. A little more $$$ but worth it. We just took delivery of our A300 with truf tires and we have the sod attachment. Let me tell you, that saves tons of time. Especially cutting the sod pff the roll from the drivers seat in AC.

i havent had any real experience with full size skid steers on jobs but i have used them. i mostly use dingos for landscape work. This is alittle of topic but did you guys know that ASV is owned by cat and that it is in the top 100 fastest growing companies in the U.S. :)

Well I would have to say Cat or bobcat. I have ran New hollands and Bobcats, and have read a lot of reviews for many machines...love my 763 bobcat, its getting old though

My vote is for Cat, but everyone has their preferences. I can only point you in the right direction, but the path you choose is up to you. Haha. Good luck, you should be fine with any machine.

I ran a T190 for the first time last week and all I can say is "Oh My God, I Loved It!!!!!!" If I had the money, I'd buy 10. You can drive them forward up on a hill and not feel like you're gonna go rolling back down, grading is a snap (1/4 acre in 10 minutes, yea, its like that)
Bobcat, Bobcat, Bobcat!
If you would need a bigger machine than the T190, they make up to a T300 (aka BFM!!!!!!)

Sometimes it's better to spend a little more $$$ and have the best and what you need then to spend a little less and not be satisfied ...c
