What do you guys think? What do you use and what experiance have you had between the two. I will start off with our experiance. We have had 4 fords in a row that the motors started giving us major trouble around 60,000 miles. All of them were oil pressure problems. 2 of which were inline 6 300c.i. motors, 1 was a 302 and 1 was a 351. Out of those 3 motors the 300 had the most pulling power because of the long stroke and torque but even that motor was weak. These were our work trucks. 1 of which had major brake problems that nobody, not even a ford engineere could figure out. I had to replace the pads every 2,000 to 5,000 miles.

Now on to our family vehicals. The 1997 expedition we had with the 4.6 motor and tow package was soooooooooo weak it stopped dead in its tracks towing my race car up a small mountain to the race track. We only had it for 2 years because it was a lease. Now we have a 2002 expedition with the 5.4 and it has SLIGHTLY more power than the 4.6 but still is wayyyyyy underpowered. The 2002 has major electrical problems. 4X4 will kick in on dry pavement for no reason, it runs really rough at times, some control module keeps going out on it. Nobody can figure out whats wrong so we are about to get rid of it. That concludes my Ford experiance and now on to our Chevy experiance.

1998 3/4 ton chevy truck with the Vortec 350, 4X4, snow plow, heavy duty trailor tow package. We got it with 40,000 miles on it. 3 years later it has 102,000 miles on it. To date I have replaced the brakes once, 1 master cylinder, 1 starter and 1 alternator. Has way more towing power than any of the fords we have ever owned and not one bit of motor trouble. As a matter of fact I will be honest here and say that i only change the oil once every 8,000 to 10,000 miles with mobil 1. Tranny has never once been serviced and we use this truck to hell and back.

Now our family vehical experiance. 2000 blazer ZR2 with off road package, V6, and trailor package. Was a 3 year lease. Had more power than the 302 and 351 but less towing power than the 300. After 35,000 miles we never had a single problem.

Well needless to say when we get rid of the expedition we will be getting a Tahoe and someday down the road when the work truck needs a motor I will personaly rebuild it with a 383 stroker kit and port the heads. After all our really bad luck with fords we will likely never go back to ford again.

Stick with what works. If your happy with it who cares what anyone else thinks.

My experience is this. Ford make good truck as long as you get a diesel. I have same problems as you, at around 60,000 but my motors needs to be replaced. I now run all diesels and have fords and dodge. I used to have Chevy when they were with front straight axle, which handled plow well, but with new front suspension I don't like it for carrying a plow.

Well, the GM's I've had compared to my Fords, can't hold a candle. So it's a pointless debate that nobody can win. Use what you want and whatever you have had good luck with. They will ALL give you problems sooner or later.

My GMC 4x4 with a 4.3 V6 just has about 270,000 miles on it. Start every time, pulls a trailer every day and has power to spare. I've had some good fords, too, but nothing as hard working as my GMC.

I have always had Ford and my family all has Ford's. I had a 97 F350 with only 47k on it and it was in the shop more then on the road.

Now I have this.

every body i know with a ford as soon as athey hit 60000 miles its all down hill most chevys gmc's last alot longer my 98 gmc 2500 6.5 turbo diesel has more proven towing power than any body near whare i live i had a pull off with a 99 f250 and draged him so hard the truck stalled and i never droped it to the floor

I got a straight 6 that is a workhorse I got a 351 that sucks.

I' ve had these trucks for 5years

351 seals hamonic balancer exhaust starter plenty of oil

300 clutch oil

through my experience chevys are junk.

we had a 1988 ford f-250 4x4. had a 5.8l 351 and a c-6. it had a 7.5 meyer snowplow. the engine runs strong after 300,000 hard miles. the c-6 transmission lasted 250,000miles. truck never let us the down the 14 years we owned it. we sold it 2 years ago and the truck still runs great without any problems.

in 2001 we bought a brand new 2001 chevy silverado 3500drw 4x4 dump truck. it has a 6.0l gasser. its 4x4. what a sh!t box. after only 12,000 miles the first transsmission blew. then at about 35,000 miles the second transmission blew. the gas gauge has never worked.it has electrical problems. its has motor problems. the manifold cracked. needs a exhaust with only 50,000 on it. the truck is falling apart. by far the worst truck we have ever owned. we will never own any chevy or GM product again.

we have a 1993 ford f-250 4x4 with 117, 200 miles. this truck has a 351 5.8l and the c-6 transmission. the engine and transmission are original without any problems. the truck runs strong and we are very happy with it.

I am not biased either way but I have owned only ford trucks and they have all been diesels. My first was a 93F250, I still have a 96f350 I got last year and I have 1700 miles on a F550 I picked up two weeks ago. My family has mostly owned fords. My father used to buy full size ford vans because he and my mother own a flower shop ( delievery vehicle) These vehicles were always traded every three to four years. They had the 300 six, 302 and the last was a 93 with the 351 injected engine, all great vehicles. The only major problem was the twin traction beam two wheel drive front end. My father bought a used 77 3500 4x4 GMC dump, what a beast. The body rotted off around the drive train but that thing was rugged. Currently he has a 3500 duramax 4x4 auto dump, realy nice truck. I am an engineer and if anyone knows what Weibel statisics are they will understand that when group off products is produced there is a percentage that will fail almost immediately and a percentage that will last almost indefineitely.
I say go with the truck with the best price that you will be happy with and take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt. My father bought his current truck because GMC was offering 0% intrest over five years. I bought my F550 because it is the only truck in its class that offers four wheel drive with an 17500GVW that is the size of a one ton.

All vehicles will have problems. Whether its a Ford,Chev, or Dodge. And some people get more than their share of the ones with the problems.

I've got a '99 Ford F350 1 ton dually with the V10 gas engine, and I can honestly say it is the best truck I have ever owned. I bought it used from a friend of mine that is a team roper. All it had ever done was pull a 38' horse trailer down the highway. Since I 've had it, I've pulled everything from my mower trailer, up to a 40' gooseneck flatbed I used for hotshotting. It's got 160,000 miles on it now, and I've had it in the shop twice, both times for minor stuff. I can pull anything the powerstrokes can, and can run off and leave a Dodge hemi magnum loaded or empty. I have made a few mods such as a chip, larger exhaust, larger throttle body, K & N filter, and I do have 4.30 gears, but the truck was awesome when it was stock. The rest is just icing on the cake.
