Armature Growler

I have been thanking on getting a Growler to test armatures with. Has any one used one that could tell me about them.

I have't used one for a spell but if they have not changed, just place the armature in the V of the electro magnets, turn on and gently take a lite thin piece of flat metal, (I used a hacksaw blade with teeth ground off) and slide it over the comutator, if it does not pull to the magnet, all should be fine. clean the comutater, and groves and new brushes should make it like new, of course check all connections and the fields for crackes, bare wires and the usuall things that come with a complete redo.
