I have an older Jacobsen Commercial Walk-Behind 12.5hp
Kawasaki with a 50" mower deck.
The mower is Model 68491 Serial 1638.
Problem is no parts are made for this anymore and I need to
replace the blades, however cannot find any specs on what
size they are.
In the parts list for this mower they are listed as
Part #390481 Bar, Cutter
Any information on the size of these blades would be great!
Thanks for your help.

Can you just measure your old ones? or don't you have them?

I have the originals however they can't
be properly measured since the corners
are rounded off.
They have been working fine until one
was bent from a brick so now they need
to be replaced.
In the past I have spoke to some Jacobsen
dealers. Never seem to have any specs on
blade size.
Thanks.

The only blades listed in my prime line catalogue for a jacobsen 50" are 17 5/16" long with a 7/16" center hole and 1/2 " outer holes that are 1 5/8" center to center 2'' wide and .155 inch thick . If thats your blade the prime line # is 7-o4779 . Hope this helps.

The only blade for a Jacoben 50" cut my Rotory book shows is 17- 1/4" & 7/16" center hole & 1/2" outer hole & 1-5/8" center to center & 2" wide by .150 thick. It is Rotory part number 15-3347 and is said to replace OEM numbers 500905 and 330720. Good luck

Those blades are for 3 blade decks.
This deck is 2 blades. Have not found
the blades in Rotary, Stens, Primline or
Silver Streak.
At least not under Jacobsen. That is why
specs are needed to find a comparable
blade.
Thanks.

Go to the UK web site and you will see a IPL of the cutter deck. It shows two blades like you said you are needing. I know the UK is a little far to order blades but that is all I have found so far.

Thanks everyone for the input.
Blades are no longer available.
After phone transfer tag finally spoke
with someone in Jacobsen and they
were able to pull the print with the
blade specs.
Thanks again.

I'm going to look at one of these mowers this weekend. Would you recommend someone investing in a Jacobsen walk behind, let alone the same vintage 50"?
Thanks Joe

Joe,
Even though this mower was older it did a beautiful job
cutting.
Actually I found blades that worked great and then the
transmission went after the 3rd yard. Go figure.
The Kawasaki engines are strong. Be sure to check the
transmission and steering on the machine your looking at.
Steering is controlled by brake shoes and these tend to lock
up if the machine was not cared for properly. You can load
the machine on a trailer and then with it off and in neutral
roll it back down the gate and see if they lock.
Make sure they don't stick when applied. They are easily
adjusted, however they are VERY expensive for parts.
Run through all gears and reverse. Forward speeds are done
with keys in the trans and they sometimes wear. Reverse is
chain driven.
Check belts very carefully and the springs under the engine
and above trans.
Make sure cables to deck blade spindles are intact and
working.
If the price is right you should do very well with the mower
if everything is in order. They are heavy so if it stops
running be sure to have a hand winch to load on trailer.
Mine was not running when I bought it 4 years ago. To date
replaced 2 carbs ($130 each), muffler ($120), 2 drive belts
($30), 4 blade belts ($50 kept tearing up due to bad
pulley.) 2 idler pulleys on deck ($20)
Hope this helps,
Rod.

Thanks for the reply. The one I'm going to look at does not run. I'm told it has a 12hp Briggs. Motors are not the issue for me, but as you stated the Jacobsen replacement parts are. I will try the brakes as you stated, but do not know of a good way to check the transmition with out it running.
Thanks Joe
