just picked up a gravely 34z/15hp kaw motor. the dealer mechanic said its best to keep them full throttle while useing, it runs cooler that way. is there any truth to this? ill be running full throttle most the time anyway, but was just wannting if he knew what he was talking about. he said hes seen people burn there motors up cause of not running wot. anything special i need to look for on a kaw motor, potential problems??

Hey confuzed, the amount of air the engine generates for cooling is greatest at full throttle because the fins on the flywheel blow the air across the engine. There are no real weak spots with these engines but will warn you that the costs for replacement parts is very high.

Yeah - he's right. Also - make sure to keep the air induction vents/screens on the flywheel clear - as well as the cooling vents that run down both sides of the cylinder cooling fins. We burnt a motor up - just because these vents hadn't been kept unobstructed.

And do not run without the blower/ flywheel housing too long. The housing is very important in colling. Had a man last summer decide to cut some holes in the housing to help it cool and it over heated instead. The housing makes the air go where is does the most good
