I'm just outside of Phily, we got around 6-10. had to plow all drives & clear all walks twice. We were out from 6:30 in the morning till around midnight. Stopped home for about an hour & 1/2 to eat and put some dry cloths on. This was my first time out and I must say all went very well. The honda blowers that Dino and alot of other guys recomended are worth their weight in gold. Them suckers will eat through a 2 ft snow bank if you don't hold them back. We were blowing circles around "Joe Home owner" with the big 2 stage Depot specials!! Can't wait for the next event.............LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-12" in NW Vermont, along with one tire popped on a broken off marker stake (or maybe the culvert it was marking), one broken cylinder pivot bolt which resulted in a cut hose as well, and one cell phone that went brain dead. Other than that we got all the per push twice. Time for some sleep and then out tonight and tomorrow to clear the commercials for opening hour on Tuesday.

called drivers in friday got plows ready loaded with salt and de icer for walks for cast for 6" or more saturday came and went NO SNOW HERE. GOTTA LOVE THE WEATHER MAN -- " NOT"
Got 8" last night. Another inch today. First year plowing and didn't manage to get any accounts, but got ads and flyers out. Hoped to get some t/p calls. Drove around to see if I'd get some work that way. Nothing all day long. Stopped to talk with people using snowblowers and shovels and hand out cards. Everybody has "brother-in-law who's coming over" or has someone they've used for years. Shoved a couple of piles from the county plow free as "good will." Looks like it's going to be even harder to break into this business than I figured. At least I can do my own drive and my rental unit. Not giving up, though. Figure I'll step up advertising in the local weekly and hand out more flyers. Thinking about making up a fact sheet flyer about the advantages of hiring professional plower over your brother-in-law. Just disappointed about losing out on the first big snow.

Got about 9 inches in Hartford, then it changed to rain around 8pm but luckily didnt rain for long.
Lousy part was, I awoke 4 am Saturday morning puking my guts out-couldnt even keep down a cup of water let alone a Tylenol. No fun plowing and snowblowing with the heaves and the shakes. Fortunately by around midnight it subsided :( went home took a 6 hour nap and finished up today. Thank goodness for an able helper. Did a few extra jobs last night also, ca-ching! Seems today, all the grumpy neighbors had nothing to do but b!t@h about where I stack the snow. residentials suck.

24" here.
I put in over 40 hrs in the last 3 days, 6:00am sat till 3:00am sun, 7:00am sun till 9:00pm sun, 10:00am mon till 12:00 tue.(I think I got all those days right, I'm still not sure what day or year it is right now) I spent most of the time in the skid steer, as I sit in this chiar at my computer I still feel like I have a seat belt on.
We had problems with all the equipment exept one truck. We started with 10 trucks, 1 skid steer, 2 quads and 5 blowers. At one piont or another we had promlems with every truck exept 1, including the brand new P.O.S Blizzard plow on the 550. The skid steer got a flat yesturday and we didn't get that fixeed till today and both quads and all the blowers broke.
I hope things went better with everyone else. Oh well good night we have to work tomorrow too so I better get some sleep.
Woke up on saturday morning to snow coming starting to come down waited, till afternoon to go out.
Around 6" when we started plowing had fallen.
Albany,NY airport was reporting 12" on the ground by 8pm.
Had both trucks running from 3pm on saturday till 10:30 pm, we did everything once and then I sent my brother home. I stopped to grab dinner & then went out myself till 1:30 am.
Both trucks worked fine. managed to sleep for 5hrs.
Got up 6:30 on sunday went out to make the rounds again. plow wouldn't work on the S-10( easy fix, loose wire)
Did the church 1st and then did everything myself(brother didn't feel like working).
Worked till 3pm and then went home to get ready to go out for New Years.

Little Green Guy....
And you all thought we were having "fun" up here working 43 days in a row on snow with over 175" thus far. Sounds like you had a 'regular day' around these parts......
Anyway.... glad you all survived. Equipment problems come with the territory. Three of us were on the phones all weekend with our Service Providers throughout the area that got whacked. All our guys did quite well, even if they are very tired....
Time to get ready for the next one !!!
Well, I discovered the hard way that I'm a little over booked. We got 20" with many drifts with some up to 34", all of it in 11 hours. I just got done at 4:00 PM today (Tuesday I think) Got a 5 hour nap one day and a 2 hour nap this morning. The F350 Mason dump with Pro Flow 2 blew the transmission 1.5 hours into it :(. Uh oh! F250 made it til Sunday 5:00 PM and another sub truck lost plow use at same time in same lot. Uh oh again! Kept pushing with the blazer and pro wings, old beat up Meyer ST90 and E-60 pump that I've been having fun keeping alive (have spare blade ready to go if needed). I've never put that many hours into a Meyer plow without some or many things breaking. Might have to change my opinion of them ;) Found an incredible back hoe owner who was as crazy as me about moving snow and really knew how to do it well (a lot that I've seen or used were not really efficient at snow work) He did a 24 hour shift with me & we got everything opened up by 5:00 AM this morning. Had 4 or 5 various other trucks (subs ) pushing at different times. My favorite sub was a 4.5 yard Daewoo (sp?) loader who put in 6 hours until a high pressure line blew. This guy really knew how to make snow disappear! Finds every curb without a scratch. He did 1 lot that me & the backhoe operator figured would take us 3 - 4 hours together, in 45 minutes. Wow! Needless to say I'll be shopping for another truck and securing the 2 loaders for the rest of the season. They loved the fact that I have about 15 lots in 1 quarter square mile radius and want to work for me instead of travelling all over as before. Excellent! Oh yea, pushing all that incredibly light fluffy was also FUN! Off to bed.

John Allin- I realy don't know how you guys do it everyday, we've worked 5 days in a row and we totaly need a couple days to fix all the equipment and rest, you guys must be nuts.
BRL- almost sounds like you where working with us, I think we also relized we are overbooked. Somehow we did manage to get everything done though.
Our equipment that broke-
- f800, never even left the shop because it wouldn't or was stuck or something
- f550, brand new Blizzard plow had bad hydrolic counections, flat tire
- f450, got stuck too many times, blown clutch and bent plow frame
- chevy 3500, myer plow would not angle correctly
- f250, blown hydro lines
- f250,(other f250) got totaly stuck and had to get 2 tow trucks to get out
- one of the subs just decided to leave
- skid steer got a flat
- all five blowers broke
- 1 quad with a taosted transission
- both quads with totaly killed plows
- flat tire on enclosed trailer
so I think there where acually 2 or 3 trucks that din;t have any major problems. I think where finally done today. We need a couple days to piece everything back together. Maybey another storm Friday.

little green guy,
POS Blizzard? You mentioned bad hydraulic couplers, but otherwise how do you like that unit.
We bought/built 9 new plows this year and I wanted to try one, but most of the guys that run 'em don't seem too enthused.

The Blizzard plow is junk,
I didn't run it, but I did spend time fixing it, They just put the Blizzard on a couple weeks ago and it broke during the first storm. One of the guys brought it back to the dealer and they "fixed" it. As soon as the guy got back it was broke again. We ended up taking it off and just useing the 550 to pull tralers with.
The problem we had with it was the hyrolic couplers kept losening up by the pump and it was leeking fluid. I think we probly used about 2 gallons just trying to keep it working. We also put tyflon tape on some of the connections and that seemed to work, but there is no reason a brand new plow should have problems during the first storm.
I think that they are going to get rid of the Blizzard and put a Western V plow on that truck. Plus the plow seems a little under built and it dosn't seem like it will hold up to long. Its a good concept though they just need to improve on it.
