What are yalls business goals for 2001? I am going to try to gross 50k and get another 15k in the bank. I am 16 and I am still in high school so I do not have any mouths to feed or a mortgage to pay. I am almost positive I can reach my goals, just gotta do alot of hard work.

We are looking to increase sales by 400% in 2001...
We are looking to double last years business. As well as add an employee and buy an Exmark Lazer w/Ultravac. And also raise last years prices.

Just curious as to how you are going to achieve this?
How many employees do you have working for you?
Still in school right? So in March, April, and May, the three busiest months, you'l be working after school???
Cutting on Sundays? I know our customers don't appreciate Sunday cuts.
Then September, October, and November back in school?
It just seems like not enough time to cut and still make your goal taking into account that summers sometimes slow up due to lack of rain.
And that's not including in the Spring when the rain flys hard and slows everyone up. How do you keep up with such limited cutting time?

20% growth in net.
Dump the late payers; price increases; do more install and excavation work.

Our goal is to add a few more residential accounts, and a couple commercial accounts. Increase the business to the point where I have to hire a helper.

I'm with Jodi, how are you going to do 50k in business while in school? That's $961.00 a week on average for 52 weeks or $160 a day for a 6 day work week all 52 weeks of the year! If you made $32.00 an hour from 4-9 (or dark) that would basically have you working every day until dark Monday-Saturday all year.
All this is assuming you have no off season! If you have 2-3 months slow or off season then these numbers increase quite a bit.
Either way that would be a lot of mowing for one person, do you have insurance? What size mower do you use?
As for me, I hope to increase my sales in mowing and maintenance 40% and spraying 100% by years end. Hope to expand more into commercial also.

Raising prices accross the board. Lose the late payers. Get one good full timer and one part timer. Take on only full service accounts. Become as efficient as possible. Going for another 45-50% increase this season.

Kirby...the answers to those questions were answered in another post but it was deleted...the goal stated has been achieved by another member as well as a local competitor here in our area. Tough goal but it seems it can be done..
I am with Jodi, and Kirby. Why take on all those obligations when being in high school. It might ruin you if it rains 2-3 days in a row on the weekend. Don't bite off more than you can chew. I would wait to get out of school and then hit it into overdrive.
Just my thoughts.

Every business has risk..He can still cut after school.
If you started this year to pay your self
10percent of your earnings.not for emergency,
not to be spent on anything no matter what.
I guarantee that ifyou dont touch it and
just continue to add 10 percent to that
fund while letting it work for you in a safe fund.
By the time you are 46 you will be a wealthy
man. providing the present system remains.
Ive never seen a kid that could do it,but wonder
if you could.Do anything you want with the other
90 percent.Just a thought. TM NOT TO GET INYO
BUISINESS BUT.

We have already have new commercial customers that raised our profit by 150% and residential homes by 70% and we have not even passed out our 2000 door hangers or bid on our real estate management companys properties which we bid up to 50 properties with the cheapest being $3,000.00 for summer alone. I belive we will grow around 250% this year due to 2 local landscaper went out of business (poor work quility) and 2 larger companies in the area that have over $350,000.00 in service alone 10 or more employees are not finding good workers they use high school kids that never show up or play more then they work so 3 of there large condominium complexes went to us and have 2 year contracts with them. I have 1 full timer now and a seasonal worker but he wants full time and will have the work and will need 1 part timer. We are also starting up a Hydrosseding service which will generate quick and high profit and also hope to sell our services along with that service.

I believe I can reach my goals. This past year I made 30,000 by myself with a 48" Encore ZTR. This year I have a 60" Dixie Chopper and hire an employee. I think that will greatly boost my efficiency. Last year, I made on average a $1000 dollars a week during the cutting season(April-Sept). If I double that to roughly $2000 a week, I can meet my goals. I do not work on Sundays, I am active in a church and do not believe in working on Sunday. It is nice having a day off. I am in the process of getting insurance and a business license. I think I am going to get about 12k-15k on my equipment and about 350,000 liability. I am going to do some serious advertising and try to get some large residential accounts that I can really use the speed of my Flatlander. I know my goals are set high, and it is going to be a challenge but I believe I can reach them. I am going to college next year so this year will probably be my biggest year because I am going to buckle down and do some studying next year.
I am going to drop all my accounts and stay on Lawnsite all day!

Good luck to ya Lawnworks. I had my first Landscape biz at 16yo also, had alot of business, not as much as you are trying to go for this year. Even won the Young Entrepreneurs Award from the local American Competitive Enterprise Systems chapter. Plus a few state and national awards from FFA. I am glad that their are still some young over achievers out there. Again Good Luck!!! What ever you do...DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!

I have not started my own business yet. I do a few jobs here and there for now. I hope to go full time in the spring. I have never done this professionally, but it is something I want to do. I did a few jobs this past week while I was of for vacation from the full time job I have now. My goal is to just be able to make a living when I do start, that is all I ask for.
