That seems to be the going rate... at least for some problems such as hip dysplasia operations. Too bad that so many dogs suffer from these problems. At any rate, how is your dog doing now?

Absolutely wonderful, he is out there in my wheat fields now keeping the geese run back on the lake so they can't eat to much of the wheat.

Had it not been for the operations he would be totally crippled, it was worth every penny.

Look at that face, my daughter has two Golden's that look just like her. It is not hard to see why dogs are thought more of than people.

yea, she's a sweetie. She's actually pretty good. Screams for attention though. In the house 7-8 hours a day by herself and hates every minute of it. Then I come home and BAM! My shadow... Was gonna breed her, then she went into her first heat.... UGH! Girl is gettin' fixed... cause' I'm not dealin' with all that.

My dogs are in concrete kennels. A dog is going to dig no stopping that best thing to do is build a dog run at the back of the yard if he digs he digs it is his area.

You are my kind of person. I started duck hunting when I was 12 years old and that was 46 years ago. When you get the right dog they are very easy to train, you can talk to them and would swear they understand everything you say.

You will find this interesting, I would go to Currituck Sound on the outer banks of NC and hunt every year. I hunted with a guide by the name of Blanton Saunders, he has passed away now but was the last market hunting guide left on the east coast. He carved decoys and they sell for thousands of dollars now that he left his legacy, he was actually famous in the duck hunting world. He told me about killing 154 Redheads from a sink blind one morning with two shotguns. I could sit in a blind with him for hours just listening to him talk about the way things were in market hunting days. He baited and used live decoys in those days then sold his kill to the Yankee's up north, with Canvasbacks bringing the best price of $1.50 for a brace.

You know how to tell who your one and only true friend really is,,,,,,,take your wife and dog, lock them in the trunk of your car for 1 hr., open the trunk and see which one comes out happy to see you, jumps into your arms and gives you a big kiss.

Man you guys really love labs. Here is my presa canario not a dog that you see everyday.

This is a wonderful breed of guardian dog. Presa Canario were dogs developed by farmers in the Canary Islands as protectors of livestock. People used this breed for fighting matches; until dog fighting was outlawed in the 40's. The Presa Canario is extremely intuitive and discriminating in his ability to discern whether you are a good person or one who exudes bad vibes. In other words, never get near a Presa Canario if there is the slightest possibility your scent may not be agreeable with its sagacity of smell.

Here's my new pup!

That is a beautiful dog, but then again I think all dogs are wonderful. I have 7dogs and love them all very much, they each have there own different personalities. To give you an idea of how much love I have for them, I have one Black Lab that I have spent somewhere between 8 an 10 thousand dollars on. He broke his cruciate ligament in both rear legs within 10 weeks of each other; which meant an orthopedic surgeon charged me a little over $2500.00 for each separate operation. I did opt for the more expensive operation so there would never be a chance of the problem recurring.

He has developed diabetes, at 6:00 am we feed him and 30 minutes later he get two shots of Vetsulin containing 38 units, then 12 hours later the same process is repeated. My vet told me out of around 10,000 cats and dogs he has as patients, my lab takes the most insulin (pet form Vetsulin) of any animal since his practice began. The cost for this alone is $42.00 a week. With seven dogs, I spend several thousand dollars a year, but it is worth every penny.

I have ask this question to many people who are not animal lovers, as we consider ourselves. You can use wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend in this scenario. I say, "if you put your wife and dog in the trunk of your vehicle, drove them around for 1 hour; then stopped and opened the trunk, which do you think would jump out and kiss you first?" I think we all know the answer to that question, this is truly defined as unconditional love.

I took him to the vet and they say he might be crossed with border line collie or a husky he has a 1/2 of blue eye but his sister got one full blue eye and the other is (lab color eyes) but even then the weight don't add up

No, the weights do not add up coming from those breeds. I would love to see a full body picture of this dog beside a person, enabling me to judge his size?

Yes, he has another breed in him, this is a big dog. I don't know how tall you are; but can tell from where you hand is while leaning very little the dog is tall. He is not fat, so for him to weigh 148 lbs he is big boned and filled out fully all over.

He looks like a big baby doll, that has a great deal of love!

There was a quote that came from someone I do not remember, but it makes a great deal of sense.

QUOTE:

"You can tell the morality of a country by the way they treat their animals."

I think you can tell from the people being proud and posting pictures of the animals they love, there are still a few good people left in this corrupt world we live in.

This is my puppy. Got her from the Animal Protective League. She had been there for 2 years. When I got her you could see her rib cage from her not eating. They said she was aggressive toward other dogs. I found she is not aggressive so much as she is very very territorial. She actually hikes her leg up to mark her spot. She is very much a Alpha Female. Otherwise she gets along great with other dogs. She has pit bull in her. I cant give her those "indestructible" Kong toys cause she will in five minutes be tearing chunks out of the toy and eating it. Only thing that stands up to her jaws is the Nyla type bones. Even those she eats eventually. I wanted another German Shepherd but when I saw I had to take her home.

I wish everyone could use your thought process for helping the unhelped animals of our world. You will always have the Michael Vick's of society, and I only use his name because it is well known, he is a small part of the animal abuse syndrome in this country.

I just called my wife in to look at Roxy. I told her Roxy was ready for a Dallas Cowboys tailgate party, she immediately wanted to hold her, we all love animals (especially dogs), but I have one daughter and wife that are head over heels in love with them. My wife actually cooks for our dogs and one of their favorite things is deer meat. She cooks and runs it through a blender, then mixes it with their dry food, they love it; and like you said, I believe spoiled is the word. It would be hard not to spoil anything that gives unconditional love at all times, unlike humans.

Abby and Cali

It is amazing how many positive things are posted, and the amount of love beaming from peoples hearts; when they talk about and show pictures of their dogs (or animals).

I mean; just look at Abby and Cali laying there side by side, knowing they are living in a wonderful home where people love them and take care of their every need. Dogs promote tranquillity in our lives, one of about the only thing that does in this fast paced world where we live. Their unconditional love is always shown, no matter the circumstances.

Beautiful dogs! I was watching some boys shoot geese over my lake and saw a Black Lab that was really working great. When they finished, I ask which one owned the dog, Zeb the young man I let hunt said it was his dog. I told him the dog did a great job on retrieving and signals, he said I sent him to top notch trainer in New York and paid him $2500.00 to make him good. He said the trainer did a great job; but the dog had the instinct to hunt. He said when he knows he's not going to hunt; it is like he becomes depressed. Thanks. I wish I had time to hunt, they would be great hunting dogs, but unfortunately (or fortunately you could say), I'm too busy to be able to do so. So my boys are stuck just being family dogs, which is great for the kids. In my opinion, labs are the best breed to have around the house. They're great with people, especially kids, and they are a great security system. Nobody wants to break into a house where two 100 pound dogs are barking like crazy on the other side of the door! :weightlifter:

Those bulldogs always look so cool! I just cant see spending the big bucks for one. Around here they want (or so I've heard) like 1300 bucks.

Here are my two helpers...Zeus (chocolate) & Apollo (black). And I don't have a hard time with yard cleanup...I put in a 8' X 10' pea gravel pen in the back corner of my yard where I trained them to go do their "business". Once a week cleanup takes 10 minutes, and not yellow spots in the grass!:cool2:

Hey ASPS4U.. Beautiful dogs, I have a younger (11 month) old English Choclate that has so far won the battle of leader of the pack.... Any tips you can give me to calm the beast???

This is my family's German short haired pointer Gracie.. Best dog i can imagine owning. I will never own another dog other than a GSP. We got her for Christmas when i was in 8th grade she is now 6. In the second picture she found a young bird who did not know how to fly it was hiding under the front bumper of a car ( i did not let her kill it) but she was interested. In the third picture she is pointing at the same bird i took this picture right before the second picture i posted.. She loves to hunt pheasant's if you ask her if she wants to go hunting she is in the truck faster than you are...:):) btw the last two pictures are cell phone pictures sorry for the bad quality

There is a quote that goes like this, "you can tell the moral values of a countries citizens by the way, they treat their animals." I think we can see these values shining through people posting in this thread, and see the kindness in their hearts, by the way they show and speak of the love for their dogs.

I find that to be an interesting philosophy, defining the values of people based on the way they treat their animals. This is probably a more accurate gage than we ever really considered, with Michael Vick being a standout example.

the way i got this dog was kinda weird. I was at a party at a guy from works friends house one night trying to meet people in my new town here. the guy ended up showin us how viscious his new dog was. Dabble was 5 months old when i saw this guy bending his tail in half (his tail is broken now) and making him bite a chew sleeve. I ended up beating this guy up really badly because it made me sick watching it. while he went to the hospital i took the dog home with me. I brought him to the vet to get all shots, registered him, and have been training him ever since. he is now very friuendly but still has a bent tail and some bad memories im sure. But i make sure i make up for that. the jackass guy never even called to try to get his dog back. i wouldnt have given him up anyway. i love my dog more than anything. if anyone wants to see his bent tail, i can try to snap a pic

This is very disturbing to think people are so stupid they can be cruel to an animal. I hope you taught the boy a good lesson he never forgets.

i sure did. I couldnt belive my eyes and when i told him to stop he started getting all "tough guy" with me, so i had to take care of that. lol I guess it bothered me so much because the dog was so young and helpless and it was whimpering out as he was breaking his tail....literally bending it in half so the to ends touched. he was obviously trying to "show off" in some twisted way to the other guys/gals that were there. It has always sickened me the way some people mistreat any type of animal. And these are the types of people who give pitbulls a bad rep. Its not the dog, its the owner. i have proved it myself. when i got him he was pretty withdrawn and shyed away when hands were near his face. But after months of TLC and LOTS of training he has turned out to be a "DREAM DOG". I always say that the night of the party was one of the best nights of my life,(cuz i got him) but probly the worst of his........ heres a pic of his tail (its even more noticeable in real life)

I'm so glad you have the dog, and even more glad you gave the past owner a good lesson he deserved to learn. I have a dog (black lab and pit crossed) that was wondering around on the golf course eating whatever someone felt sorry enough to give him.

This dog had been hit by a car and his left front leg was badly deformed from healing back incorrectly. I loaded the dog into my truck and took him to my farm. I carried him to my vet and spent quite a large amount of money in attempt to get his leg repaired and all other things a new dog requires.

The leg could not be repaired but I can promise this dog has had the most perfect life a dog could ever ask for with more love given to him than he would ever believed possible. He is not a show dog (and I am glad) but he has a beautiful face and my family loves him dearly. Here is a picture of old Jack!

And from what i said before, I am not a bully or look for fights by any means, but cruelty to animals makes me more mad than anything else. Good luck to you and Old jack....he looks cool. i could only imagine how expensive that broken leg was, not to mention all the other good stuff that came with it im sure. Nice talking with u

I don't even cry at relatives funerals, but I cry when one of my dogs die. The only time I can remember crying in the 60 years I've been alive is when one of my dogs die. I really can't explain why a dog can get such a strong grip on my heart but believe me they can.

I had a Baptist minister talking about dog's not going to heaven because they did not have a soul. I told him he could believe what he wanted but the word "dog" was not spelled backwards of "God" for no reason, and since God made dogs, he could definitely put them in heaven.
