my father-in-law used to have a rat terrier when he was kid -- Brutie. Still talks about him. Says he was the toughest and meanest dog he ever owner -- loyal to him, though.

Loved that dog to death, then shot it when it bit his first child.

"Beefy" pinning Alex and watching Zack. He is something else, very gentle with the boys. And is always concerned for them, anytime the boys start to cry from falling he is the first one to the scene. The boys have started using "Beefy" as a step stool to get up on tables, and counters in the house. Great dog, and wouldn't trade him for anything.

shiznitttt
07-28-2004, 10:56 PM
"Beefy" and Zack the other twin. If you notice "Beefy" has a doggie door and always blocks the boys from going out of it. He sort of just keeps moving to position himself in front of the boys to keep them from going outside.

not to many problems, if you keep them clean, due to all of the folds in their face. He did have a nasty yeast infection once in his ears, but knocked it out with some stuff the vet gave me.

100% truth, my rat terrier's name is Brutus. Just like the dog that you're father-in-law speaks of I'm sure. Extremely loyal, and very mean. I'm very thankful that my staffordshire doesn't have an attitude even remotely close to the rat terrier.

The name of mine and the one your father-in-law had is a neat coincidence...funny how stuff like that works.

Have a good one,

ScCo

Expensive dogs but worth every penny of it. I always wanted a bulldog growing up, and when I could finally afford one I snatched him up from a buddy of mine who had a male and female. The female had a litter of 11 I think of which 9 lived. He was so lazy when I first saw him that he would drag his hind legs when he walked.

Well, yeah, the dogs name was Brutus, but he called him Brutie. That is a neat coincidence. You know, they say you should name a dog with a name that ends in "Y". Supposedly is easier to train them. Makes sense.

"Come Brutie"
"Come Robert"

If I were a dog, I'd be more apt to respond to "Brutie" :D

I have a Westie that is 13. She's pretty mellow now, but used to be a real handful. Hated all other dogs. Very territorial. She doesn't seem to have the energy to be concerned anymore.

Here are some picks of our dogs. My old man has 6 dogs. Two greatdanes, 2 german sheperds, a rat terrier, and a doxin.
This one is Rex he is a male long haired german shep. I love german sheps. I had a short hair american german shep that was the best dog. Rex is awsome too, he just not my dog max. :(

barringtonbrothers
07-29-2004, 09:54 PM
This is my sister short haired ***** shep. She is a good girl, but was a seeing eye dog school flunk out. She is to skiddish. She is very smart and the two sheps chase each other round and around the yard trying to herd each other. lol she has a bad habbit of laying under your chair cause she learned that in the school, so dont get up to sudden.

barringtonbrothers
07-29-2004, 10:01 PM
This is ebony. She is a great dane we rescued from a abusive life. She is a very loving and loyal dog, and she has the meanest growl I have ever heard, and if she doesnt know you watch out cause she will take a nip. She scared the bejesus out of two detectives who came over to my dads house with here growl. They where going up the stairs to my fathers office and they woke her up and gave a low mean growl cause she didnt know who it was. One of the cops freaked out and started runnign up the stairs and ripped the back pocket of the other cop when he was trying to run past him. LOL They then argued about it like a couple of little girls.

barringtonbrothers
07-29-2004, 10:08 PM
This is sable the other great dane. She is a sassy ***** who will turn her ass end to you and pout if she is mad at you. She has the worst attitude of any dog I have ever met. If she wants something she will come up and stand in your face and growl, if you tell here no she just growls more. We get a kick out of pointing at her and laughing, man does that just piss her off to no end. She play growls and barks at you till you scruff her neck and tell her good girl.

and i want a lab or golden retriver....

only problem is, is that our backyard is TINY, no one is home during the day, and me and my bro are allergic to dogs that shed!!!

Are those Greyhounds from a rescue? thats a house full of dogs for sure...

jason r.
08-07-2004, 01:07 AM
Yeah, all 7 are rescues. The Greyhounds all use to race for a living. Mostly at the track in Mobile, AL. Me and the wife volunteer alot of time with local rescues especially with the local Greyhound Pets of America Chapter.

The Greys are a great lazy man's dog. They go all out for a few minutes and the other 23.5 hours a day are spent like this......

(Hard to believe they were once professional athletes, lol.)

No picture but I have an australian shepherd that likes to go mowing with me. She will not leave the yard of the house I am mowing and if she's in the front or back and I don't see her all I have to do is call her name even over the engine noise and she comes running. All of my elderly customers love her and she smooches up to them, good customer service dog.

Heres a snap shot of my boy "Booch". He is a Belgian Malinios. many Police depts are using them for police work. It is said that they are replacing shepards in Germany with Malinios. These dogs have very strong drive and are not recommended for the average pet lover. These dogs NEED exercise or they will destroy every thing. A regular run in the park every Saturday isn't going to cut it with these dogs.

I read up all I could on dog training. I looked up a few good training web site like Dr P's dog training and Leerburg's web site and I learned a ton of info from them. I now have my dog well trained but I made the mistake of using English commands. If i walk him and some one tells their dog to sit guess what my dog does?......

The dog was bought by someone for breeding purposes, he wasn't going to be able to accomplish that task so the owner took him to the animal shelter (can't believe some people), good thing was that I found him. The shelter nuetered him, which is fine, but he had excellent lines, just now he hasn't the nutz. There loss was my gain. He was named Jager when I got him, so we kept it. He was four months old, already house broken and pretty well behaved. he will be a year old next week. They're both good boys....

Grassmanvt... yes, the first picture is of my lhasa, but the little girl begging is a maltese. She will sit up like that whenever she wants attention, and when she's doing this she puts her paws together - like in the picture - and waves them up and down. What's funny is that she will sit like that anywhere, in a car seat, on you lap, you name it. My lhasa also sits up and paws with one leg, but is less energetic about it.

Maybe that cat in Stuie's picture is really a skunk in disguise.

The vet can give you something to slow him down for a couple of days then he will be fine. I would give him a couple of Benadryls and that will slow him down, it will also keep him from itching as bad while he is healing. Talk with your vet about this, I have six dogs and give it to a couple of them with allergys on a regular basis. Dogs need a lot higher dosage than humans.

Ask your vet to put your dog on Rimadyl and I promise you will see a big difference in his legs and his energy level. The dosage is 2 mg. per pound of body weight each day. This will give your dog some extended quality of life, I just hate to see them give up.

Corn, soy, and wheat are three of the biggest culprits as far as food allergies in dogs go, and finding a brand of dry dog food that is free of these ingredients can be tricky. Itchy, red, flakey skin and a dull coat are common symptoms of food allergies. You need a dog food that is free from corn soy and wheat. Always check the ingredients on your dog's food, and always check with your veterinarian to eliminate other health problems that may be causing dermatitis. Most all of the major brands are feeding your dogs corn or soy filler. Not food. We have seen a remarkable difference in our dog’s coats, energy level and stool. They poop solid instead of mush now. I can’t say enough good things about this dog food.

I recommend VF- Complete. I get mine from my Vet. Here is the web site and the ingredients.

Ingredients:
Brewers Rice, Chicken Meal, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a source of Natural Vitamin E), Fish Meal, Dried Whole Eggs, Brewers Dried Yeast, Flax, Rice Bran, Natural Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Garlic, Dried Cheddar Cheese, Lecithin, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Copper Sulfate, Extract of Rosemary, Manganese Sulfate, Chondroitin Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Biotin, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (a source of Vitamin K), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite

Not food. We have seen a remarkable difference in our dogís coats, energy level and stool. They poop solid instead of mush now. I canít say enough good things about this dog food.

I recommend VF- Complete. I get mine from my Vet. Here is the web site and the ingredients.

Ingredients:
Brewers Rice, Chicken Meal, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols, a source of Natural Vitamin E), Fish Meal, Dried Whole Eggs, Brewers Dried Yeast, Flax, Rice Bran, Natural Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Garlic, Dried Cheddar Cheese, Lecithin, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Oxide, Ascorbic Acid, Copper Sulfate, Extract of Rosemary, Manganese Sulfate, Chondroitin Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Biotin, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (a source of Vitamin K), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite

I totally agree. There could be a whole thread about dog food:) I use Nutro products which contain none of those either. Look for meal or meat for the first ingredient. By products contain heads, feet and intestines

Usually anything that can be bought at a grocery store isn't the best choice. There mostly fillers(corn).

This is very good information leadarrows, most people with dogs do not understand this. I was one of those people until a lady that has worked with dogs for 29 yrs. explained the difference to me. My six dogs now eat the Nutro Lamb and Rice and I can tell a tremendous difference in their coats and itching. This food is a good bit more expensive than a lot of the junk foods but it is worth it not to see your dogs suffer. Thanks again for this great information.

This is very important information on some pet food being recalled containing a fungi toxin called aflatoxin.

If you feed your pet Diamond, Country Value, or Professional dog or cat food, then you may want to visit this link.

Here's my Female GSD Diamond (was going to breed but neither are to keen on city life since we have moved) So they are both for sell to good homes.
I hate to let either go but it's better for them, then to be selfish.

He may not be worth much, but I would be willing to bet he would be awfully hard to buy. I have one Lab I put over $5000.00 in his rear legs, how much do you think I would sell him for, he is the one on the left in my avatar.

how much would you sell him for???? i'm sure there is no price on him... Spike was free for me. a buddy of mine had a litter and gave me pick of the litter for nothing but if someone offered me $10000 i wouldnt take it... "man's best friend" is an understatement. beautiful dog too by the way man...

I knew it, you just can't put a price on unconditional love.

This picture was actually painted by an artist from the picture and is in several veterinary hospitals and offices in NC. She said I could never get them to pose like that again.

That seems to be the going rate... at least for some problems such as hip dysplasia operations. Too bad that so many dogs suffer from these problems. At any rate, how is your dog doing now?
