I have just about all of the above on my cards. However, on my second set I put my address on them so in case I missed somebody they could mail me the payment.

I used to do my cards on the computer. But the cards still look cheap. U can see where the cards are prefferated. I would have people want me to bid on big jobs, and I would hate giving them a cheezy card that makes me not look like I can handle the job. I went and got nice, glossy cards made and love them. ($100 for 1000 for first time- $30 for additional 1000.)

Things to add:
e-mail
cell #
licesne and insured
any degrees- Horticulture, applicators lic, etc.

Check eBay for business cards. Some people will print a basic, blach ink card for under $30 PER 1000.

I would not get them at Office Max or Office Depot unless you are doing a very simple design. When I tried to get some nice ones done ($50) they took over a month maybe two and still did not get my e-mail right. I got them to scan an Exmark and put it on there, but it still doesn't look very good. I am fed up with them and will never go back for business cards. I am going to try to get some off of the internet. The sharper you business card the better. Next ones I get are going to be an eye-catcher.

Mowman,
As far as content you have some good advice already mentioned. But I still use the computer to print my cards. If you are not using them for advertisement purposes, I believe it's cheaper to do them yourself. Like double e says they don't look as profesional but if you just use them to inform customers of your phone #'s and etc... or don't have the money for a nice card use the computer to do them. My card has three colors on a nice thick paper with a decorative design and you can barely see the preforations. Although, in the next few months I will be having some made for me. Do what you can afford. If you don't have the extra $50-$60 bucks use the computer until you can invest in them.

Just my opinion.

Remember to use the back of the card, if not that's a lot of wasted advertising space.

Where are some good standard design business cards online that have a picture of grass in them? Ray, didn't you use 1-2-3businesscards.com? I remember you having a good design, I just can't find it.

Thanks

We did our at office depot...we brought in our design and they came out great....because of design and color scheme..it was about $65 i think

we listed services
free estimate
phone number

never thought about the back though..thought it would be useful since many customers place it on a tack board or fridge...don't know many people who would look at the back

For you guys that make your own or are thinking of making your own. Invest in a paper cutter. They're about $30-$40 at office supply stores. Once you get one you can't imagine how you got alone without one. Then you can buy card stock (67# paper in dfferent colors) for less than $5 per 500 sheets and make your cards really cheap and not have perforations. "The Print Shop 10" software even enables you to put your smiling face or another appropriate picture on the cards. You may even want to use heavy photo weight glossy paper to give out to those special clients that you really want to impress. I always carry an assortment of my cards, some even have my standard pricing schedule on the back side. The possibilities are endless.

I too had a bad experience with office max.

I gave them a design and told them how many I wanted. the kid said when do you need them by. next week. They called when they were done. I went up there and it seemed like they were printed on recycled paper (that didnt have the lines) that is how thin the paper was. the colors (two color card) were dull.

so i asked to speak with the manager. He explained the situation being that we could not do a good job because we had to scan your image. we could do a better job if we had your image on a disk so i got that for him. they ran some more

i went to pick them up and 270 out of 500 were cut improperly i had a green border going around the card that would be cut off of one and appear at the top of another
card. I told them these were not acceptable. he then tells me that the image is too big. he agrees to reprint them without shrinking them.

Then last but not least they lost my disk that had my design on it.
I wrote a letter to the store manager who never replied

Find out all of the details
the weight of the paper
different options-some will do them in house, some send them out
it is best if you have a disk if you have a design(have two copies though)

sorry so long, just had to vent

We make our own on the computer and then use a laminator
to enclose them in plastic. We can change the wording
when seasons change or to add services. The laminated
coating helps because when we are mowing or pressure washing
our hands are dirty. People ask us where we get our cards!
http://www.angelfire.com/md2/jeffex has our card on it That is
our basic card.

Our company cards we have the following:

FRONT--
COMPANY NAME
COMPANY ADDRESS
EMPLOYEE'S NAME
EMPLOYEE'S TITLE
OFFICE PHONE #
OUR FAX LINE #
VEHICLE PHONE # (IE. Fert-Grounds-or-Landscape Truck)
BACK--
two colums LANDSCAPING GROUNDS CARE

On my personal business cards I have our shop phone as well so I can ensure that employees have all the main numbers in case of emergencies.

Good Luck!!!

My cards have pretty well all the same info on them. I always include my address, phone and cell phone. I, like all the rest of you, am never around to answer the phone myself. I have found that people only call my cell when it is really important so far..

A local printing co. prints my cards. Very convenient. next day proofs on all changes, they have their own printers and artists. They were very helpful with initial set-up off the card layout.
They are just a small company so they really have time to pprovide quality service..

I use the lamination also, but place a magnet behind the card before I laminate. I give these whom ever gets a bill. Others just get the card.

These 2 do it for me,the commercial one I made myself, just download one of the many free business card softwares off the net,get some blank perforated business card forms from a print shop and away you go,about $3 per 100,and you can change them whenever you like without having to buy lots of printed ones.

On the front of my card I put my business name, my name home #, cell #, a list of services and there is a picture of grass that splits the card long ways.

On the back I have my basic lawn services listed and I put a place to enter an address, a quote for those basic services based on an on site free inspection of property and then I always initial it so it can not be changed or filled out by anyone else. I also have it noted that all other services are performed at an hourly rate plus materials and tax.

I have used magnetic business cards for another business. People stick them on their refridgerators for years. They cost about .50, less if you buy more. Local print shops usually have a source for these. They are expensive, but they last.

My cards are simple and to the point. They stick out like a sore thumb in a Rolodex or junk draw in a kitchen because they are neon green. In large font they say the company name and the phone number. I feel that unless you're doing something specialized like tree injections you really don't need to list each service you do.
