I am trying to come up with a business plan.

My question is, in your experience, on average how many lawns can a two-person crew cut in an eight hour day? Of course job proximity is important, but I would like to know what you've found in your experience overall?

Thanks so much for your input. This site is great!

A lot of varieables here, but if you keep a tight route and size down you should be able to do atleast 12-14 yds a day. Provided you have a good 32"mower and a worker that knows what he's doing.

Thanks a ton Master of the Lawn.

That's about the number I expected.

I am curious if that's about what most of you have found out as well?

Depending on size and how close together they are, we used to do between 15 and 25 for an 11 hour day.

i am a solo crew i get about 12 in 12hrs with 50 miles of driving. so with 2 probably around 6.5 hrs. last month me and friend got 18 in 12 hrs with 2 hrs of driven time. keeping track of driving time lets me know the cost of my yards to the min.

Hey Hoolie, 15-25 yds a day? About what size of yards are these? I'am guessing Postage stamp size or a littel bigger.

Yup, for 15-25 a day they were generally in the 4k-8k foot range.

I no longer run a 2 man crew, but when I did we never did less than 12 per day, most of the time at least 15 a day ( 8 to 9 hrs. )if we really hustled or worked longer hours then we did even more but on avg. 15 per day....

i do 10-12 lawns a day solo working about 7 hour days. smallest property is 1/4 acre turf, largest is just under 3 acre. Most are 3/4 acres that i'm in and out in 25-30 minutes.

Starting Sep 1 (school) i'll be hiring someone and doing 20-22 accounts in one long day. i'm expecting it to be close to 13 hours

Wow, some of these numbers seem very low to me.

I guess what equipment you have could play a large roll. I didnt read and see what you will have, but i did read some guys with a 32".

I personally run a two man crew, and we can do 15 jobs in 4.5 hours. Total we do 48 jobs in 18 hours. Some of these lots are very small, and my biggest is only 1 acre.

Keep in mind, I run a very VERY tight route...Total of about 1 hour drive time PER WEEK, and the two of us work well with each other.

We only use a 44" gravely Zero turn, and a 36"wb. Next year we will run a 52 or 54" mower, and replace the 36"WB with a 36" hydro. These additions will cut about another 30 minutes to an hour out of the work week.

Trevor As many woman have said "Size does matter" LOL :D :D Seriously though, yes the size of the lawn and the equipment you are running makes a big difference and also the type of lawn: For example

1) Amount of trimming & edging
2) Bagging or mulching
3) Amount of flower beds, trees or obstacles to mow around
4) Preferred cutting height for type of grass or customer's liking.

so on, and so on......

I'm part time this year, full time next...I can mow 5-6 places after work from 4:30-8 each night....On a Saturday by myself, I can do 15 places easy, all at least 3/4 of an acre with my 60" Dixie and my 48" Ferris

Well let's see my yard sizes start at 1.0 acre and run up to 20.0 acre's. If we are looking at 1.0 to 4 acre lots its around 5 a day. There is a lot of trimming of bushes that has to be done.

The 20.0 acre project will take all day, once again we are doing quite a bite of work on this one and it must look clean when we leave. You do not want these owner calling you back to fix any thing on saturday.

I don't rush through any of my yards its the total package that counts, we make it look the way it should be, that takes time.

We get paid very well to do more than just mow and go, once again tha grounds must look as if nature was her self was in charge of them.payup payup payup payup

I only get 1 done and it takes 3 to do it so I guess size does matter. As a solo I got done with most of my lots(RES.) in about 45 min. 8 to 10K. With myself and a helper it took about 27 min. and with 2 man crew it's over 30 min. I run 10 hours with 1/2 for lunch and can only get 14 on my best day. Really hard to say as each is different and extra trimming or hard to cuts can add time.
Best way is to decide that a truck will do 19 hours of work a day and budget for that. Than sell work that matches that as close as possable. I avoid overtime as that will kill all profit.

What's with the 8-hour day idea? Your going to be a landscaper not some indoor office wuss so here’s something you need to take to heart you have no idea what the weather is going to be like tomorrow. In other words you have light and the weather is nice you keep going till you either finish or it gets dark. I know this can be hard to understand but something that I have worked though is entire weeks that rained all 7 days. If your going to make any money in this trade you need to be ready to work when the weather will let you.
