View Full Version : How to locate main irrigation line?

I have a zone that currently has 2 heads on it. I want to add 2 more heads but am not sure what is the best way to find the main line for the zone. The easiest would be to attach to a current head but I don't think I can do that since the size of that line is only 3/8". Any advice aside from randon digging?
Once I do find it, what do I use to connect the smaller diameter funny pipe to it?
Short of using a wire tracker, try to find the valve cans (assuming they didn't just bury them.)

Dig back along that 3/8. Mormally that 3/8 only runs for 18". Then determine if its connected to a 3/4 or half inch line
Note the direction that line is running then tap in your new head

aquamtic, I know the supply line is at least 1" possibly 1 1/4" I need to add 2 heads. Would I be best to "T" off using the 1" pipe then drop down to the 3/8" when I'm closer to the delivery point? I don't want to run 3/8" for a long distance as it might affect water flow???? Should that be a concern?

You shouldent run 3/8 for more than 3-4 feet mainly for. T off with the same pipe size and then break down to your 3/8 closer to your head location
