View Full Version : orange powder on grass?

i have an orange/yellow poweder on all my kentucky blue grass... does anyone know what this is? i dont think its a fungus because its on the freshly planted blue grass that i planted anywhere from 1-2 months ago. can anyone help me out with this?

Its a fungus disease called rust. New grass is especially susceptible.

Yep, sounds like rust. Cool to moderately warm, moist weather favors rust development. Condensed moisture, even dew, for 10 to 12 hours is sufficient to allow spores to infect plants.

Control: Keep the turf growing rapidly by applying nitrogen fertilization and irrigating. Most of the infected portions of leaves are removed by weekly mowing, and the spores trapped inside the mowed leaves die out rapidly. You should bag and dispose of these clippings, and it may sound ridiculous but you may want to hose off the mower (not over grass) to keep from possibly spreading this fungus to other places.
