View Full Version : Ford f350 brake controller hookup

I tried hooking up a brake controller in the diesel but it does not work. There are 4 wires, compared to the 5 in the gas (not coming out of the controller, from the truck). I get the decimal point but it will not give a readout or apply the trailers brakes. I already tested the truck with another controller and the same thing. Does anyone know if a fuse could be bad or some other problem. I have blue to blue, white to white and then the red and black wires are switched. This is the same way that it was done in the other truck that works.

My 02 F350 came with a brake controler in it already but I would look under the hood at the engine compartment fuse panel. My 03 F150 had two 10 or 15 amp fuses blow in that box, I replaced them and the trailer brakes worked fine again.

we just had them installed on f-150 maybe not the same problem a napa dealership kept trying said there was a wiring problem, but no it was the slope that they mounted on the dash we had to go with a type that can be mounted no matter what degree its setting.

on my 03 f350 it came with a wire harness in the glove box or you can buy one dont cut the wires, there is a quick connect under the drivers side near the center(under the raido area) call ford dealer if you cant find it saves alot of time and damage

What controller is it? What year is the truck? I just put a Tekonsha Prodigy in my '04 F350 last night. Had to be the easiest install ever. Mine has a four wire plug in the dash. Rather than use the pigtail in the glove compartment, I bought a Ford specific harness when I bought the Prodigy. It makes it a true Plug-n-Play deal on newer Ford vehicles that have the tow package.

Just did the prodigy too. 5 min install with the ford specific harness @ SouthW#st wheel for $125., Best controller out there.

If not, certainly one of the best :D Got mine elsewhere, but paid about the same, $120 and change shipped. I had looked at the brakesmart, but didn't have $350 to spend. And the brutally simple install of the Prodigy made it a done deal.
