View Full Version : They Have Nicknames For "Us"

One of my customers left me a message Sunday "I'm getting ready to mail out some bills, but I realized you'll be by tomorrow, so why don't you just knock on the door, I have your check"

So today I mow, finish up, and knock on the door. I'm waiting for a few seconds, then I see the teenage daughter peek out the window. "It's Mower Man" I hear her yell. The lady comes out with the check, we exchange chit-chat. "So, I'm Mower Man, huh". She looked embarassed. "Oh, you heard that. That's what the kids call you."

There was a thread recently about customer nicknames, never occured to me that they have nicknames for us, too.

Anybody got a nickname?

Well, let's see. I have one customer that calls me sweetie...At first that wasn't bad, but everytime I hear it now, I know she wants something else done......

Been called "Grasshopper" part of my company's name. The best was when I was out front of my parent's yard servicing their lawn, when someone stopped to ask for directions to someone's house. The driver leans over and asks me where someone lives. Before I could actually point out the house, his wife says "he's just the gardener, he doesn't know". Anyway, I told the driver where the person lives. When they get out, I drive by on my Z rider to go an cut the another lawn near by and stop. I turned to the woman and said. "It's amazing what gardeners know isn't it!" and drove off.....

I have to agree though, the lawn boy seems to be the common name for me.

It's the only reason we named ourself Lawn Mowing Boys!

Great story...cutting a lawn and the lady comes out and asks..."My sister and I were wondering what the age difference is between you two boys?"

I replied, "23 years and this is my 12 year old son!"

This is how we got our name.

"Yard Man" is common around here, but nobody has ever referred to me as that in person.

I wouldn't have a problem with "Gardener" - has a professional ring to it. Gardeners are held in high esteem in Europe.
