mulch vs blacktop

i have seen here that some people are getting over $95.00
per. yrd. to apply mulch.now if you are and are putting
2"down, are those beds(sq.ft)bigger than
the customers drive way? they should be abble to get 1"
of black top(resurfase)over the sq.ft you mulch.
my point is look at your overhead compared to paving
100,000 decent used paver
20,000 3/5ton roller
if i calculated right you guys are doing better than paving

You are seeing what a lot of smaller guys are getting but when you start getting it to larger # then price go down.
On parks that I do if you go over $40 per yd you are pricing your self out of the market place.

I agree. More than $40.00 - $50.00/cu. yd. is hard to justify for most types of mulch.

I hope your prices do not include the labor for installations as well.

here black top is around $50 and less per ton to pave sreets.
drive ways are $75 per ton.
it cost $25per ton(for the black top)
this includes labor every thing.

some people here get more for mulching a customers beds.
then i would get if i paved there drive way.
(if they both are same sq ft)
i think thats good. there are some threads here that
compare plummers prices.to mowing .
example

you cut a lawn in ten minutes charge $35 customer
complains you charge to much for only 10 minutes of work
now that same customer needs a plummer he unglogs sink
in ten minutes charges 35 customer dont complain.
i was just try to compair them
mulch beds or new drive way

What rdh is saying is, it's cheaper to hire someone to put down black top than mulch at the price of $95 a yard.

I only mow, I'm to old for doing mulch work. I referr that work to a friend that is much younger and I think he charges around $50 a yard installed.

I realize there are big differences in mulching prices, but there maybe also a big price difference in the price of a yard of mulch too. The last I got for home was $18 a yard for hardwood mulch. Maybe this is where the big difference in price lies. There are a lot if different types of mulch too. I had never heard of PINE STRAW before a year and a half ago and it was here. How much is that stuff?

Its a favorite here in carolina.Lowest retail
ive seen was Lowes 3.95 ballpark.
LOWES is not the best quality sometime,
folks like it to be bright and fresh .

I have a regular f350 dump truck I get 600 for a mulch job that uses the whole amount in the truck! About 5 yards so that is like 125 a yard installed! That includes edging weeding and leveling!!!!!!

I encountered the pine straw (white australian pine needles)this year for the first time when I was in Greensboro NC.

I liked the appearance the first week it was spread, but after that it looked quite unkempt in the landscape more often than not. I found it was also quite common for the snake population as well. Was not uncommon to find baby copperheads or whatever the f*k they were. I HATE SNAKES!!!

We bought our bales from Price Nursery in High Point for about $4.00 bale.

getting in lawn care and i cant wait for the day i can say to my old boss that i made more than his whole crew

brandy..you could put 4ton of top in that truck(weight limit
here)and be lucky to get$400 load laid and top cost you$100
so it would realy be $300 per load or less. like i said
earlier i cant wait to start lawn care thank you for the reply.

Your $50 keeps you in the ball park. We are buying it in 70 yard loads for $14 yard marking it up to $28 for fellow contractors and installing it for $60 yard. The average supplier in our area charges $35-$45 for double ground red oak.

I get 65$ per yard ,an i haven't heard any complains yet.Hey the way i look at is if they don't like it let them DO IT THEMSELVES!!I've met a lot of folks that could screw it up (if that could be possible)?
