Overrun Lawn

Hello

I've just purchased a fixer upper home. It hasnt been lived in for over a year and the lawn is really overgrown(at least 3 feet high). Can anyone give me a clue, besides cutting the lawn, what to do to get this lawn to not look like a prairie field anymore:confused:. If it helps, i live in Northern Illinois. Thanks in advance for the help.

Don't know what you would have in mind other than cutting it on a regular basis and maintaining it as a lawn.
