View Full Version : Pine Straw Pricing?

Guys/Gals I hate to ask this but we normally do not provide landscape maint services to our residential accts simply because we are so busy. I know it is great extra money, but we just don't have time normally. We do provide Complete lawn care, everything you can think of just not major (other then spraying or weeding) landscape maint, but do provide it in our commerical accts and figure that into our bid price as part of the monthly fee. Well I have an excellent customer that has been with me since day 1 and today when I was riding around checking on the guys and doing PR with customers he begged me to do his exsisting 5 beds (total of maybe 500 sq ft) and a natural area with pine straw maint. He said he is just too old now and normally uses 20 bales but this time he wants 30 bales put down. Now the areas are already pretty good and well mantained and we have great edges around them so it is really nothing more than spreading the straw. Problem is I have no idea how long 30 bales will take so I have no idea what to charge.:o
I also might add that we are really undercharging this customer badly on our end on the lawncare.
Any suggestions? Thanks!:o

Just double the price of the straw and put it out. Figure on about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs for one guy.

Thanks a TON guys. Both of these is what I will base the price on then and kinda what i was thinking as I was going to charge whatever the cost of the straw was and about $5 here sounds right as labor also. In other words $5 per bale and $5 per bale to put it out.

MMLawn... I am getting 7 dollars per bale here in Raleigh. Don't see yourself short, most LCO's around our area are getting anywhere from $6.50- $7.50 for pinestraw and installation per bale.

$7.00 to $8.50 a bail here includes edging the beds. And we only use NC long leaf. Better color, coverage and it last longer even when the area is irrigated. Anything over 100 bails gets sub'ed out. We pay $5.90 bail installed ( includes bed edging ).

Damn I wish we could get those prices here. It's $6.00 per bale here installed. No bed edging. I have seen advertisements in the atlanta paper who install it for $3.00 per bale. One guy told me they go up to Tennessee and bale it themselves and then come to Atlanta for business. He said they were really rough looking mountain men. I pay $3.25 per bale here.

We buy longleaf pine straw for $3.00 a bale and sale it for $5.00 a bale. Then to spread it we charge $3.00 a bale for current customers under contract and $5.00 a bale for non-customers. Hope this helps.

The going rate here in Myrtle Beach is $7.50 per bale installed. We are thinking of taking it up to $7.95 soon though.
