Nice truck at a very nice price! You can't beat that for a work truck. What engine is in it? If it's the same thats in my older f150 you have quite a lot of miles to still get out of it. My 93 has 275,000 and is still running ok.

Looks good, you'll wonder how you ever did it without a truck. When you said "painted the lettering off" did you mean peel?

depending on the rear end gears, look for about:
towing trailer around town- 9 or 10 mpg
towing trailer highway- 11 mpg
regular town driving w/o trailer- 11 maybe 12 mpg
highway driving w/o trailer- 13 MAYBE 14 mpg.

Thats about what i got with my '90 F250 3/4 ton with same engine but it was a 5 speed stick shift. two wheel drive with 3.55 gears (likely what you have in yours). Except i rarely got more than 12 or 12.5 on the highway, i'd say you would get a tad more being as yours is a little more aerodynamic and alittle lighter weight and a little lower to the ground. The 351 is a good motor. Not the easiest Ford truck engine to work on (the big block i have in my F350 is actually really easy) and the 300 inline 6 is a breeze. Don't know much on the 302 i think it's about like yours. 351 is good engine, probably about same torque wise as a 300 inline 6 and not much harder on gas, but they're a bit faster. The 300 seems to be bulletproof and a torque monster from what everyone says, and they're rumored to be good for 300k miles! The average life expectancy of a 351 seems to be about 200k miles or so. Mine had 197k when i sold it and it is still running everyday. it was beat all it's life but maintained regularly. My parents have a '92 Full size Ford van with the 351 and it gets the same mileage as my truck did (it's automatic though) we once got 16 mpg on interstate in it but only once. the rest of the time 14 was max. It has 203k miles on it and doesn't leak a drop of anything and runs very well (like new actually). my truck leaked lots lol. Now, their van feels like a turtle after driving the big block.
ok thats all i know about ford engines haha...
good luck with it and expect it to last a long time. you got a great buy there :)

Ha! i get 6-8 mpg in my F350 with the 7.5 litre 460 big block! 6.5-7 is very average general driving around town/local highway driving 50-55 mostly with trailer. gets 8 on highway (once got 9). Got 6 on interstate Saturday at 70-75 mph (no overdrive). don't even tell me about bad gas mileage :D i'm the king of bad gas mileage

nice truck, look on e-bay for some wheels, those are a little bit fancy for lawn mowing  :D that 351 is a beast, you'll be happy with it. replace the plugs, filter, wires, go for high quality, hell, maybe even put a flow master and that 351 will get 15mpg, if not 16. my buddy has a non-efi 351 in his 86 ford and that thing is just plain fast and can pull anything, it gets about the same mpg as scags 460.

if you want, send that engine down to me and i'll swap you my 300 I-6

Geez, talk about a steal! Good for you Darrin.

Rent a carpet cleaner from the grocery store (most rent Rug Doctor brand) and make sure to get the upholstery attachment. Then you can extract ALL that dirt out of that seat and it'll look (and smell) like new! It will get a LOT more dirt out then a regular vacuum.
And it's cheaper then taking it somewhere to have it done.
Not to mention you can then do your home carpets and sofas while you have it and your wife will love you even more! LOL!.

Good luck with the truck.

well, i have heard worse numbers from other 7.5 owners..... i was told to expect worse so i think i'm ok (i have 3.55 gears i guess most others have lower gears which equals worse gas mileage). i can afford the gas right now yes it's alot but the truck will do anything. i get asked to do jobs just because people know i have the flatbed and not everyone has one here and some jobs just require that type of vehicle. i don't mind getting a couple three less mpg's over my old truck since i can do alot more with it in trade. it's a great work truck. I did do a full tune-up on it recently, i think it helped some.
