View Full Version : Break swap out

I was thinking,
I have a 92 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4.
Could i take the front brakes (calipers, mounts) off of a 3/4 or one ton and mount them on the front of mine?
The truck pulls fine, but i can really feel it when i try to stop real quick.

I think it should stop just fine with a normal load. Anything less than 2 ton. Check your brake pads. I had trouble with my chevy once after rebuilding the brakes. It was the lifetime warranty pads I had put on. They were so hard that they didnt work hardly at all. I took those back and put on the cheap pad & shoes and it was like a brand new truck. Its worth checking before you try doing a brake swap.

I not going to swap them.
I was at napa today, the sell heavy duty pads and rotors that are supposed to make a 1/2 ton stop like a 3/4, they are going on as soon as the truck needs pads.
I pull very heavy loads at least twice a month. I move cars, move people, and last month i towed a 7500# bobcat 40 miles!
I like to have the security of knowing the truck has the stopping power if i need it, especially since my 6x12 i tow every day has no breaks on it.
