How many of us are going to be working on Labor Day Monday? Me personally I'll be up in the northern part of the state doing some relaxing at our family hunting camp. Just curious to see who all is or isn't working on Labor Day.

09-01-2004, 10:52 PM
I usually don't work holidays, but since I am going to be out of town from the 8th - 12th, I will be working Sun thru Wed morning to get caught up.

09-01-2004, 10:56 PM
We stacked up this week so we could have half a day on Friday and are going to stack up next week to make up for being off all day Monday. Yea we have to work a little harder a few days but a long weekend will be worth it. It will also give me time to get one of the trucks into the mech. for a tune-up, and the other needs a good detailing. It also is my personal truck.

i usaully take off Monday's anyway...... ahhh, to be the boss.

09-01-2004, 11:20 PM
No work for us.

If we showed up to a property, my cell phone would be ringing immediately from the homeowner.

I am going to enjoy a nice New England long weekend.

My helper and I will be out there if the hurricane does not come up here sooner. I will be out enjoying saturday and sunday in the pool though.

I hope we dont get hit badly by this hurricane next week like Richmond did the other day, something like 10 to 15 inches of rain in a day. They got clobbered down there and it just misted us up here about 1 1/2 hours away.

09-01-2004, 11:29 PM
I'll be working and wishing I wasn't. Got a lot of do this or that whenever you have the time kinda jobs I need to get off my back...

09-02-2004, 12:22 AM
Working on Sunday and taking Monday off, Saturday is the first home game which means I have to take the day off due to my "no drinking while mowing" saying.

09-02-2004, 12:24 AM
Holiday?? What's that......The first holiday for me and the crew starts at Thanksgiving.....Of course they get off until April 1 when we start mowing again.....

09-02-2004, 12:26 AM
I am going away Friday the 10th to Sunday night so its not an option to take off this year.I will work, but try to do commercial accounts that day.

The lawns don't stop growing for holidays, every other day of the week is full, I won't work on a weekend, thus I will be working on Monday, maybe a little quicker so I can get out of the homeowners way.

09-02-2004, 12:47 AM
I'll work Labor Day, and take January and February off... Nobody cares unless I show up at 7:30am. Probably work from 9-4 or 5.

09-02-2004, 01:03 AM
In this business you have to "make hay when the sun shines". Sorry! Up here we only have so much time before the snow flies. Then its only to wait for the snow to pile up to plow....again and again and again....

09-02-2004, 01:15 AM
Two weeks ago I had planed to take off but now with the hurricane I think I will try to get going and work early in the week as the end may be wet.

09-02-2004, 01:40 AM
i lucked out, my boss' anniversary is labor day weekend, so no work!

09-02-2004, 02:59 AM

I have to keep tract of all my "bosses" special days as she will kill me if I don't.

09-02-2004, 07:06 AM

Are you in Jax, FL by chance??? Wait... That's LCI I'm thinking of not LGI, but I'll still ask just in case.

As far as working on Labor day... We stacked up this week to get all of our accounts done by thursday because regardless of what the weather-guessers say I feel that Jax might get some of Frances' rain bands today. We weren't planning to work monday anyway, but we'll still be in the hurricane's rain influence by then, so we'll have to play catch up the rest of next week.

Hopefully we don't get scewed by it... We are supposed to be doing initial service on our first annual contract by Wed at latest, and we know they are picky because we will be the 3rd LCO they've hired this year, and our second time bidding on the contract (didn't even have to back off on the price to get it... Just let the other LCOs screw themselves out of it until the decided to pay us what it's worth. :))

4 days off, but we'll pay the price in sweat.

worked hard today, taking 3 days off now.

09-03-2004, 09:03 PM
We'll be working all day. There is plenty of time to take off in the winter.

09-04-2004, 08:03 PM
If it doesn't rain, I'll be out working....

09-04-2004, 08:15 PM
Been watching what the hurricane does. Local forecasters are saying we in Columbus are going to get moisture from it. Saying it could rain for two days here. So as of right now we are planning on going out and mowing. I don't know about the rest of you but these yards are green and long here. Was planning on a long weekend but as stated earlier plenty of time in the winter when the snow is not blowing.

09-04-2004, 09:35 PM
If the holiday falls on a weekday, I will mow. Except for Thankgiving and Christmas. Weekends are for me.

09-04-2004, 10:23 PM
Working all day Labor Day. Looks like it will be another busy week!

09-04-2004, 11:03 PM
Took friday off to get ready for the storm, and to have maintance done on the mowers. So monday i will be back at it, going to take care of fridays yards.

Now they are saying that there is another storm comming this Thursday, man we can't by a break down in the Orlando Florida area.

Well just sitting here nothing going on with the storm at this time man there is just nothing to do.........................

09-05-2004, 01:01 AM
The only "work" we plan on doing Monday is twisting the caps off of Miller Lites and eating tons of Louisiana steamed shrimp.:D Everything will be right where we left it on Friday for Tuesday morning.

09-05-2004, 01:22 AM
Lets see? Rained out on Thursday, mower died on Friday, spent 1/2 the day buying a new mower today? Yep, I'm working sunday and monday.

We had planned on taking Monday off, but a bid came through that will more than cover our expenses for the month of September. Ya gotta love that.........weather permitting, of course.

09-05-2004, 09:38 AM
I guess i'll hafta work.Due to the hurricane frances comming my way.Rather be cought up than way behind!

09-05-2004, 10:09 AM
I'm working 1/2 day (at least). I'm taking this FRI/SAT/SUN/MON off to go to FL and scuba dive. Well that is IF there is anything left from FRANCES & the next hurricane in the pipeline (IVAN) doesn't beat me to the Keys.

09-06-2004, 03:16 AM
had plenty of work planned for the day, but got rained out.

09-06-2004, 09:53 AM
Nope, not working today. Gotta go work on busting up the rest of the front porch.

09-06-2004, 10:12 AM
No holiday for me since I'm a solo operator and choose not to double up on Tuesday. Soon though, my holidays will be many, (Dec.-Feb.)!

09-06-2004, 11:52 AM
Helper and I had a full day planned but the outer bands of Francis changed all of that. Got two accounts done beforethe rain kicked in. Not complaining to much as I know the guys in the direct path were affected a heck of allot more. Hopw everyone came thru OK.

Working as much as possible without making anyone upset. Supposed to have a rainny week from the hurricane in Florida. Gotta get em done to do overseeding this weekend.

09-06-2004, 05:32 PM
Just got done about one hour ago. Only spoke to two customers and they could have cared less. Just told them that I was trying to stay ahead of any rain that may come here from Frances. We did our whole route for Monday. At least we did not have to deal with traffic trying to get to the yards.

Same here only 5 lawns behind and they are calling for rain all week.

09-06-2004, 07:23 PM
Yep, I worked today. Ground 10 stumps early and then mowed 4 lawns. Now I can set back and watch frances dump some rain. Might even get some clean up work on this one.

back out..................................

09-06-2004, 07:39 PM
We cut 12 lawns ans 2 of the people came out and said they were glad we showed up today. We also picked up a new customer today.

09-06-2004, 08:58 PM
Boy, I'm glad I "Labored" today! Now they're calling for rain for the next 7 days for us here. Last week was the first dry week we've had since early July and the grass had started to slow down. It's not going to be a fun week coming up. I can't remember when I've seen Crabgrass so thick before.

09-06-2004, 11:26 PM
I cut a bunch Sunday and Monday. Supposed to rain here starting tomorrow afternoon and not stopping until late Thurs, early Fri it seems. Glad I only have 11 more accounts to do. Hope I don't bother too many late risers as I start cutting at 7:30am to get it done before the rain starts.

09-07-2004, 12:14 AM
I mowed my parents lawn and did some equipment maintenance today. I don't mow on Monday, so the holiday didn't really mess up my schedule.
I had some fertilizing and a seeding job scheduled, but I forgot about the holiday when I set it up in QXpress. I opted to do the seeding job this coming Saturday and the fertilizing next Monday.

09-07-2004, 12:46 AM
I worked about a half day today, would have worked more with the rain coming and all, but I just wasn't motivated today. Didn't bother any customers as far as I could tell. The only problem was, a lot of them came out to say hi, as they don't normally see me. Slowed me down a bit, but that's part of the job sometimes.
