View Full Version : LCO wins Lottery
The newspaper reported that a guy in Maine who started his own lawn care company in 1999 just won $5,900,000. He says his life might change a little. He wants to keep mowing lawns but wants to buy a bigger mower. Reported income last year of $20,000.
I think I'd hire someone to chauffer me to the jobsites.

Kudos to the man from Maine!
I knew there was money to be made in this industry, I just had no idea how much... ;)

If i won that much money i wouldnt even mow my own lawn anymore. Amazes me when lottery winners say they will keep their jobs. I would be sitting on a beach in Hawaii and/or travelling the world

Funny, I am planning on winning the Big Game lotto tonight. $40 mil ought to last me a lifetime. I'm with Charles, only I'm going to be in Nags Head one month and in the mountains the next.

I would keep up with the bz and just expand. I enjoy what I do and would continue it as long as I am healthy.

lawncutting is work, u work to make money, if u have that much money, u dont need to make money. retirement is a state of finance, not an age!if u r 18, and have enough money, u retire, if u r 65, and dont have enough money, u work...very simple. i would never cut grass again

I like parts of this job. but there is alot i dont like. I find it hard to believe that some of you would cut grass, snow plow etc and all the headaches that go with it if you had millions of dollars. Get the millions and then we will see lol. There is so much to see and do in this world. My new job would be to work at having fun. Take cruises, snow ski in the alps, party on south beach miami, dine in the best restuarants, invest the money to make more money, the bahamas, paris and on and on. Being abused by senior citizens, the weather etc is not the way I would spend my life if I were rich. Maybe buy a more respectable biz and run that if you want to work.
It's nice to think about what we would do with millions of dollars. Unfortunately, I learned from several (second hand) that it's not all good. My first experience was in 1986 when a neighbor won $2mil. He was a firefighter in Omaha, Ne. Quit his job and bought a big screen tv to watch the football games. Built his parents a house. Six months later he'd lost all his friends becuase he was suspicious of them, lost his girlfriend because he was suspicious of why she stayed with him. I talked to her later and the money wasn't the reason - she actually left him. He got real bored getting anything he wanted and having nothing to do. Tried to get his job back, but they wouldn't hire him because "you don't need the work". I finally lost track of him.k Second experience was with a closer neighbor, who won a second time and gave the ticket to a stranger standing by her in the store - said she "didn't want those hassles again". On the other hand, I know two people who worked at the same place I do who have won millions. They were within about a year of each other. Both quit and has worked out well. I guess it depends on circumstances. Come to think of it, there seems to be several strikes around me - maybe I should buy a lottery ticket.

What is this "He wants to keep mowing lawns but wants to buy a bigger mower"? With this kind of money he could probably setup his own plant for his own mowers heh.

"I'm sorry, the number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please hang up and try again."
If I ever win...I'm gone for good boys, and that's the last trace my customers will ever have of me.

First off, I would probably get out of this biz and do some writing. If that didn't pan out, I'd buy into another type of biz and keep working. I've been off for weeks at a time, with money, and I just climb the walls.
Second off, I want to be Mick's new acquaintance. Everyone around him is winning millions! :)

Mick, I going to buy a house next to you!

I would buy my dream house (some where warm 11 mo out of the yr.) with a BIG lot, mow it myself, and when the mail comes hop on my rider and go down my 1/4 mile driveway to get it. I'd keep my favorites.

got an uncle who always worked hard his whole life, in the late eighties he came into 3 million dollars, he is now 66 yrs old, and has "retired " from his life long job, now he drives a school bus for $7 an hour, cus " he dont know what to do with himself', fact is he spent so much time working, he never learned how to enjoy himself, or have a good time. what a shame, i dont think id be bored one minute. just ask any millionare if THEY would like to be middle, or lower class. i doubt it.

I think I'd enjoy continuing to mow, at least for a little while. I'd enjoy dropping the few customers that tick me off every now and again. You know the type. They constantly leave the hose stretched across the yard eventhough they know you're gonna be there on a specific day. They're just too lazy to roll it up, let the lawnman do it.
If I won the lotto and saw a hose left out, I'd mulch it on purpose and tell'em to find someone else to roll it up for'em.

I would buy an around the world ticket for my wife and I and take about 4 years off. Then get into some kind of charity work or maybe just spend my days trying to hack into Charles' computer!

My moms first cousin hit the 100 million lotto out of ohio and they drove from chicago to buy it. They were one of the 7 people so they recieved 17 million or so. THey were pretty low on the income scale and just went bezerk when they hit. Its not for everyone. No way not for me! Im not gonna let money ruin MY life. LOOOL

I don't think that I'd give it up. I would have all the toys that I ever wanted and be the envy of all the LCO's all around. I would just have more fun than now running my business because I would not have to worry about my budget. I don't think that I'd be able to quit, I would be bored after a while.
Just my thoughts though!!

I'd buy a house with lousy landscaping and set to work fixing it all up the way I like it. Buy all the fancy equipment you could need and then sell the house to make a little money. Then buy another house and repeat. That way, you still can do the fun stuff but you have no nasty customers and set schedules to keep!! Vacation when you want!
Hi, I started this thread and am enjoying reading how people imagine they would respond to winning the lottery. My wife came home from being gone for a week. I read her the responses here. She says I'd need to keep working. She and our five grown kids would spend it all. I'd be broke and looking to you guys for work.
