Gravely Promaster 300 20HP

Posted this on the tractor side with no response so am trying the homeowner forum....

A Gravely Promaster 300 (outfront riding mower) with 20 HP Kohler and 60" deck with hydraulic lift with 497 hours is being offered at $3900. I am told it is a 2000 model.

Is 20 HP underpowered for 60" mower deck? Was this machine significantly re-designed in later models to address any big problems? Any ideas on what a good value would be?

Can't say specifically about the Gravely, but my Ransome 3-wheeler w/61" has plenty of power for most circumstances. I usually run flat out (6mph). Exceptions are when the grass gets too long - cutting 6" off in one pass (just slow down) - or if you want to run with doubles (just not enough hp). 20hp used to be the standard until manufacturers got the Tim Taylor bug.
