my peerless 700 transmission on my encore 48 wb just gave it up, any ideas on where i can get a cheap one off the web? best price i can find is 397.00, any body every tried a transmission off an old rider?

What happen to it? You can rebulid them things.

i havn't taken it apart yet, but when i put it in gear the shafts spin but when i let out on the clutches they stop spinning. where can you get a rebuild kit?

My scag walk behind had the same problem this spring. All it needed was new keys inside wich were only a few dollars a peice. My mechanic said its very common on peerless trannies.

Peerless is Tecumseh. Take your number off the transmission (littel metal tag) to any Tecumseh dealer or service center and you can get parts. There is no "rebuild kit" to speak of. You just buy what parts you need.
