We wear ours on the way to the area we mow and coming home too. We don't put them on to go down the street a few houses.

I always wear mine, even if going around the corner, I have such a habit that I have it on before I realize I did it. Plus, being a MEDIC I have seen enough people thrown into windsheilds, what a mess.

If I see employees without there belts on, they receive a verbal warning. If they are ticketed for not wearing one they are relieved of duty from that point. I cannot afford to pay my crews for neglect and disregard for the company when most tickets take about 20 min. ( yes I could be an authority on the issue ).
As a vol. firefighter I agree with kirby as well. Don't like the carcass catchers ... but they work!!!

Count slowly 1.......2.......3.......4.......5
You just buckled you seat belt, saved your life, and avoided a ticket. Is that hard?

I have a habit of wearing my seat belt or I can't drive.
Ill probabely pay for it but almost never
wear it in town.In this area the police
dont pay much attention to that in work trucks.

For all you guys who : don't have time to buckleup, it hurts your neck, I,m just going down the street. ETC. ETC ETC.
I propose these rules. :
1. When the ambulance picks you up; they don't have to turn the siren on to rush your carcass to the hospital.
2. Your insurance company doesn't pay any medical, liability or property claims because YOU were operating a motor vehicle in violation of the law and common sense.
But hey you are doing the human race a favor because eventually the gene pool will sort out those of you not intelligent nough to buckle up! Congrats to all you future Darwin Award Nominees. What are you going to do next to impress us. Clear out the discharge chute of your Walmart 21" walk behind??????

Well I to have bagged more bodies then I can count, as kirby has. However in town I dont wear mine though I know I should.
My big beef is if the guy on the motercycle dosnt have to wear a helmet It shouldnt be illegal for me to go with out a seat belt.
I also heard that in texas now it will cost you $250.00 if your seen with a cell phone to your ear while your driving. I personaly have seen more accidents caused by ciggerettes, eating, and pets in the vehicle then I have cell phones. But thats the way it goes, blaim the object not the person.
Now not buckeling up your kids is a felony in my book though.
Just my own ramblings Jim
I rarely wear mine. I'm tring to get back into the habit.
I admit i don't wear mine all the time, I try and remember but don't always, seems like when im driving my car i never forget. Maybe this will help me to buckle up. Thanks Marks Mowing Service

As naturalawn stated there are some pretty ludicrous penalties for the different things people do while driving.
I think that instead of receiving an infraction for not wearing a seatbelt, that local police agencies should have a "ticket" for us to sign during traffic stops.
Instead of a DMV offense have it sent to your insurance company by the police so that you are now consisdered a high risk driver thus increasing your premiums. Cant make us wear a seatbelt, but they could make us wish we had.

I believe it does go on your driving record...therefore insurance companies do see it.

Ive gotten 6 infractions for no seatbelt in the last 10 years (terrible I admit), however my insurance has not gone up.
My point was rather than going before the magastrate or judge, why not just give those like myself higher premiums. This would save both time, court costs, and scheduling dilemas for everyone.

your right I wasn't thinking...Car insurance companies could care less if you are wearing a seat belt or not as long as your not committing any moving violations or getting into accidents (damage to vehicle)

Wear mine every time, have for over 10 years. Everyone in the vehicle with me is required to as well.
In California, the law says automobile drivers must wear their seatbelts and motorcyclists must wear their helmets. I disagree with both laws, but would do both anyway.
It's not just the law, it's common sense. Not wearing your seatbelt because motorcyclists don't have to wear their helmets is like taking hard drugs because other people can drink alcohol. Just doesn't make sense.

TG I think you missed my point, I wear my seat belt most of the time, And do wear a helmet when I ride (its only been 20 years) a motercycle. But being told to do so by the Goverment is what I dont like. The government is getting to much into the privet lives of the citizens.

I think the laws should be enforced for people, especially kids, riding in the back of pickup trucks. If your forced to wear a seatbelt (which my family does and would regardless) inside a metal box, then how can you justify hauling humans like cargo unprotected. My son asks me all the time to ride in the back of the truck because he sees other kids doing it. I just remind him how much it would hurt to sail out of the back on to the road.

We lost 11 kids, ages 15 to 19, in an accident one time. They were riding in the back of a compact pickup that was going way too fast and the driver lost control. In spite of this the local law only says that persons under 16 cannot ride unbelted in the back of a truck. All animals must be teathered however.
I started wearing my seatbelt back when a friend of mine was ejected from a car and crushed when it rolled over him. That was over 20 years ago.

Yeah, thats a good reason to forgo a seat belt. When you are hurled through a windshield, maybe your last thoughts will be "I sure showed the Government who's the boss".
I never wore seatbelts until I drove a car in a demolition derby, where belts were mandatory. After that experience I truly appreciated what a seatbelt can do for you and have worn one ever since even for around the block jaunts.
This was before any laws requiring use BTW.

Lawnguy, As I also stated I have put bodies in bags for over 10 years, some belted some not, no I wont show "big brother" I am boss if Im thrown through a windshield. Bit it is my choice. And also I do belive when it is your time it is your time and nothing you do can help you.
About 8 or so years ago there was a wreck in Missouri the ambulance went picked the patient up, had a wreck on the way to the hospital, they then sent a helocopter picked him up again and then they crashed it just was his time to go.
4 years ago we had a lincoln town car hit a tree at about 45 miles per hour. WHAM 4 dead occupents all older folks, all wearing seat belts, one of them nearly decapitated by hers, and she was in the back seat. The passenger compartment was undamaged. Go figure.
The point of my post is that the government is too much involved in privet lives. If it dosent endanger anyone other then yourself there shouldnt be any regulation aginst it. Its like all these laws aginst suicide. If you try, and fail your going to jail.
It dosent make sense to me.
We all need to be safe. But i dont need
big brother to snap me in.Its really a
good law . Some are just very weary of
more controls over personal life.TM

No, but I did win a trophy for People Choice- I was the crowd pleaser for the night.
If I get my scanner working Ill post up the photo in the off-topic forum.
After that experience, I went out and bought a 1971 Ford LTD Brougham as my run-around car-I felt very safe in those big Fords.

In Indiana, you only have to wear one if you are driving a car or minivan or suv (with a small passenger vehicle plate). If you have a pickup, you don't have to wear one.

i don't like the gov. telling what to do either, if you want to fly thru a windshield and end up splattered over a quarter mile of roadway thats up to you but, remember that someone has to sweep your dead a** up to shove in a bushel basket, now wouldn't you enjoy being a emt, this is not saving lives like he got into it for, this is disgusting for anyone to have to do.
i wear mine everywhere.
have a little respect for yourself, your survivors and the rescue personel, they all deserve better than washing your blood off the road.

if you are registered commercial vehicle you better reread your federal laws regarding commercial vehicles and the requirement of seat belts that goes back to the early 70s

I know the laws here. I don't tow enough weight combined to have to register as a commercial vehicle.
