nice mower but 15K thats alot of change to fork out for a mower, when one could get 2 ZTR's gas for less than that.........so my question is what makes diesel mowers better than gas ones... i know there are a few companies out the that make them but why... whats the advantage other than mower torque hp rpm ect.ect. its not like im pulling my trailer around with it ya know... im just curious thats all not trying to sound all jumpy on ur case or nothin ive just never been explained.... i do like the look of the mower though clean lines, smooth flowing.... but why didnt that call it "Z Super Diesel" ( say it real fast ) !!!! LOL

I saw it at the EXPO in Louisville this past weekend. That thing was fast! I also saw your walkbehind that tips up for gates. That was really a great idea.

One of the major ones in my opinion would be engine life.
Usually you can get a lot more hours, or in a vehicle case miles, on a diesel than a gasser.

1800 pounds of grass cutting and rut making machine for only 16,000 dollars. I think I'll pass.

Isnt weight near 1600lbs? I was expecting some better tires to support that weight. I can get a 50hp DC turbo diesel for 15k, but the CAT motor is cool. Not trying to bash, but I think a 10-11.5k price tag would be about right.

PJ,
Am I reading the specs correctly - is there no trim edge on the 60" model?

very impressive looking machine.

I'm sure that for the guys who need one big, monster that will eat up anything, that it will be the machine to have.

I'm adding another 60" super z (28hp EFI this time) and a 48" swb to my fleet here shortly, so that rules me out on the big diesel machine as I need the versatility for the $$$ that the two smaller machines will give me. But if ever I need a big, bad, mower, I think I know where to look.

Good Job to the people at hustler,

Same reason they put diesel’s in Tractors and Semi’s. Longevity, fuel consumption and power not to mention, the resale will be a lot higher on the diesel. If you keep the machine until its wore out it will more than pay for its self compared to a gas version.

Please remember these are MSRP, your dealer will have a great price for you, all you need to do is ask.
Remember, you are getting a premium unit, not a scaled down diesel, this unit utilizes the largest pumps and wheel motors currently available to this application in this industry, and we are also driving the main deck belt via hydraulic pump and motor not a mule drive or multi belt operation (the deck has a single belt across the spindles) in fact there are only 3 belts on this unit deck, pump(s) (there are 3 pumps on this unit) and alternator / water pump (2 of these belts require no tools for adjustment or replacement.
This unit also utilizes 26 X 12 - 12 tires in the rear and 15 X 6 - 6 in the front, plenty large enough to handle the weight and distribute it nicely.
Correct on the trim on the 60" unit, the wider frame and tire stance on this unit, does not make for much trim on the 60" deck.

I think before you bash this unit you need to to check it out and see it not a Kubota. This one step above a z. It may be more for large area, golf courses and municipalities. Not to say a Landscaper cant use it.
The hydro pumps and motors are totally different design style than other with piston style wheel motors.Mower deck is driven by a hydraulic motor. Check out prices on cat diesels-not cheap but durable though. Automatic reversing fan to keep the radiator clean. The unit does have a wide wheel base. so the the 60 inch really has little trim because they really don't change the frame for the 60". Fold able ROPS as standard equipment. This has larger rubber on it than most other z on the market.
I know we can keep talking about it. When your dealer gets one you must drive it to satisfy Yourself!! It is different!!
These pricies are MSRP-remeber that.

Got to see it first hand at GIE in Charlotte. Drove it around for a bit and WOW! This thing is powerful, fast and very quiet for a deisel. I think Hustler can sell a bunch of these. Worried about the price? You'll still be cutting with this mower in 15 years! It'll pay you back in the long run!

Wish we could talk Sheffield into going 4-5 years on financing these, would help us sell them to LCO's.

I hear Hustler is looking at a 20-21 HP Deisel for around 10-12K, down the road, but that's what I'm hearing.

I hope only on a 48" deck. Did you get a chance to turn the blades on?

I love the longevity and torque of a mower like this, but I've been told that in regards to this mower and others like it (diesels), the engine will be running strong long after the deck and rest of the mower have fallen apart. What's the general consensus?

I think that engine is designed to last around 6000 hrs before a major overhaul and with proper maintenance the machine itsself should last that long.

From a Diesel Owner (me),
Diesels are wonderful, very reliable, extremly durable, have easy maintnance, alot of torque, and are incredably fuel efficient. However, my main reson for posting this is that, my mower had a 3 cyl. engine. That was the smoothest running engine I have ever used. When mowing, the engine ran at 3200 RPM, and was like riding on air. I as an perator, felt absolutly no vibrations. And the mower sounded like a car, it was very very quiet from the seat. When working all day the lack of noise and veibrations realy cuts down on operator fatigue. The machine was an apsolute pleasure to use.
