Trans fluid capacity question

I sprung a leak in one of the lines to my trans cooler. I replaced the broken line but need to know how much trans fluid my truck holds (the dipstick reads bone dry). It is an 89 F250 with 5.7 V8. I don't know which specific trans it has, the truck is 8600 GVW if that helps.

You need to know what transmission it has, my '89 f-250 had the 7.3 diesel and I think it held 15 qts. Just buy a few qts. and keep adding till it shows up on the dipstick. i would say if it doesn't read any on the stick then you are atleast 1.5 qts low. Just a guess?
