Who actually edges asphalt driveways? I have been having alot of people ask me about it. I explain to them that asphalt does not have a nice defined edge like cement does, and then I tell them for an extra charge they can pay me to do it with a shovel. I can then clean it up some with a stick edger. Who includes in this in their services at no extra charge? If so what you do when you get a new account with a grass that has grown waaay over the edges? I have some that have a good foot or so, (believe it or not it's true) that is grown over. Let me know what most of you do.

I turn my weed whip on its side and whip a line along the edge.

I charge a monthly fee for edging since most people don't want it. I have run into a case like yours, I used the Little Wonder X-tra went over 3 times, then got the shovel out and scrapped off the turf from the drive.

It depends. On my nicer jobs I will edge along an asphalt drive. If it is apparent that the homeowner just doesn't care then I don't. It's a case by case situation for me.

BTW, I edge asphalt with my grass trimmer.

My biggest mistake ever was offering lawn care without edging. I gave them the option of a Quick Cut: which offers just mowing. A Basic Cut: Trim, blow, and mow or a Delux Cut: trim, edge, blow, mow. I cut in a pretty high scale area and Never imagined any of these people would go for anything but the best. I thought having the different prices would kinda ease them into paying the high price, and get a little bit of an idea of how i figure out the pricing. Well, I can tell you all, NEVER DO THIS. I have 3 of my accounts with people that are so cheap!! I mow for about ten minutes total and I'm gone, I leave grass all over their driveway and sidewalk and they come out and clean it up when im done, idiots I tell you. They will get a broom and shovel and pick it all up, or at least sometimes they do. Now these same people are the ones asking me about edging everything. They look at the rest of my lawns, and think man, that looks so much better than mine. I told them they can pay me the price difference for the services for the season and I will get it cleaned up. Sound like a good idea?

On asphalt I edge somewhat. The best you can do with it antway. Just mainly trying to keep it from taking over the driveway. Hard to get a straight and pretty edge on asphalt. I just tell people up front.

Asphalt edged with string-trimmer turned on its side is the only way I know of...all accounts resi/comm are the same - edge, mow, trim & blow regardless of concrete or asphalt.

All you can really do is keep it mowed and once in a while, beat it back with some Roundup and your trimmer. Asphalt is just not meant to look good and crisp like concrete. Its just there to keep cars from getting stuck in the mud. It is what it is, unfortunately, but its better than gravel and mud.
