View Full Version : 3.73 or 4.10 gearing?

I found a Duramax w/manual transmission, the rear end gearing is 3.73. I thought I wanted the 4.10 but really I don't know. Any opinions?

3:73 will give you pleanty of power with ability to cruise at 80 and enjoy 16 mpg while pulling a 10,000 lb trailer.

Go with the 3.73...Diesels are torque monsters and the higher gears (lower numerically) will help w/ top end and economy.

Gotta agree with the others, in diesels, the 3.73 is plenty, and is much more fuel efficient.

I agree also, the taller gear (4.10) is going to give more grunt down low, where you don't need it with a diesel, my diesel has 3.55's and it does fine.

Ended up not buying the available truck, instead ordered a new one with what I want. Went with the 3.73. Thanks for the advice.
