A fellow plower in my area tried to tell me that u shouldnt move your plow when pushing at all. i do this at the end of a long run when im about to dump the load, u change the blade from angled to stright. he saw me do this and said it was a bad idea to change plow pos. with a load. this has to be crap.

Wait a danged minute.....
If I actually explained (in specific terms) what B.S. stood for - Chuck would ban me from here (or at least edit me and send me a nasty email) - and rightly so.
How would YOU explain it to a person that speaks little english ? I don't know how to put it in French.

No he doesn't. He's a serious poster here.
He just doesn't speak English and is using a French translation software in order to be able to communicate with us. Unfortunately, our language is such that some things don't translate well. This is one reason none of us bust his gonads about how his post's read.
He's for real, and (apparently) quite intelligent about our industry.

Good morning John Allin and to all.
The only reason I could think of,why not to opperate the plow while having a blade full is less stress on the hydraulics.Only time I had to worry about that is when I had my 1959 Willey's Jeep W/ a Meyers electric plow. The poor generator on the Jeep couldn't keep up.Come a long way since 1984.I think!
John,
Maybe slplow was refering to Columbia's fellow plower?
I move the plow all the time while pushing and haven't noticed any problem with it.

4S,
I went to altavista and typed in "manure" and that is the translation they gave me. You got the point though!

Did you ask him if he sprays magic on his plow? That might be the cure to any and all potential problem(s).

Did the guy say WHY you're not supposed to move the plow?

he said it can damage the truck and hydro.

Tell him that it's not going to do any more damage to your truck than plowing in general...

I never lift the plow while the truck is in gear. First I put it in park and make sure the parking break is on. Then I get out and make sure there aren't any small animals around the plow or truck. It takes a lot longer, but it's worth it.

I move"angle"my plow while pushing all the time.mostly at driveway and parking lot entrance's to push and pile on the corners there of since you can't legaly push across streets and I have never had a problem.

I plow several subdivisions, and out of courtesy, when passing previously plowed drives I put my low in the scoop position on the go at about 15 mph to keep son out of drives, then back to angle as I pass to unload the plow and get ready for the next, the drives, except for dead ends are abnout 250 feet apart so I do this many times in a run, an d have yet to have any trouble with my hiniker v-plow. I also do not run skid shoes so it does occasionally catch sewer grrates when doing this, since the roads have rounded curbs. outside from a liitle more coodination on my part i can't yet see that this hurts anything. Just my two cents.
