Welcome everyone to the Gopher training class. Our topic is snow plowing and the options you have with Gopher.

All are welcomed to ask questions or post answers. Please share with us how you use Gopher to track your snow plowing services.

Using the Matrix feature in Gopher Plus.

This is taken from the Matrix training section located here. (http://www.gophersoftware.com/training_index.cgi?ref=null&page=training_matrix)

Since there are many ways to get what you need done, please consider the different options before making a final decision.

The basic function of the “Matrix” page is to apply a service(s) and or material(s) to a single or group of customers at once. An example of when you would use this feature:

Snowplowing : You can set up a Matrix that includes the different services and materials you offer during the winter months. Your Matrix may include the following services "snowplowing between 1 - 6 inches", "snowplowing between 6 - 12 inches", and "Sanding."

Your materials may include "Sand" and "Salt."

Now since you may not know exactly what services or materials you will use until you get to the job site, you will have your matrix list with you. Each customer that you have added to your Matrix will have a grid next to their name to allow you to check off which services or materials you applied at the site. This is an example matrix sheet that was printed.

At the end of the day, run Gopher and pull up the Matrix screen. Choose the Matrix you want to complete and click the "Complete Matrix" button.

Double click on the corresponding item in the grid that you checked off on the form and that will quickly enter your services or materials used. This totally eliminates the need to add line items to your invoices later or have to schedule in these as individual jobs.

You may also want to create a "Spring Clean up" Matrix or a "Fall Clean up" Matrix as well. At the top of the Matrix window, you will see one tab: “Matrix”. Use the New, Edit, Delete and Complete Matrix buttons to operate your Matrix database. To create a new Matrix item, be sure you are on the “Matrix” page located on the green navigation bar that runs along the left side of the screen.

Another option for snow plowing is using the Job Cluster feature in Gopher Plus. Here is how to set up your Job Cluster. Once it is set up, it is very easy to inact when it snows.

Step 1. Choose the Schedule page, Job Cluster tab and click New

Step 2. Create a new Snow Plow, Job Cluster. Set Cluster day
to None.

Step 3. Choose Default Services and click Add Service. In this example, we have added the service Snow Plowing.

Step 4. Choose which customers will receive this service.


Step 5. Review the assigned jobs. Add more if needed or remove the unneeded.

Step 6. When it snows, inact your Job Cluster by clicking Set Next Date and choose the date.


Step 7. Your snow plow jobs for the 6th appear in your jobs calendar. You can now print them and service the customers.


Remember when you are completed, mark the jobs completed and at the end of the month generate your invoices. The next time it snows simply repeat steps 6 and 7.

Team Gopher -
Your responsiveness and willingness to help everyone has convinced me that Gopher is the software for me. In addition, it was nice to see that Snow Plowing can be added as a service on the program. Can invoices be created for other landscaping jobs and/or irrigation? I may eventually break out into offering those services as well.
