Hi Guys and Gals...

I subscribe to PRO Magazine and was wondering if there are other magazines I could be subscribing to.

I like the articles in PRO (and also the fact that it is free)!

Do you folks know of others that I should be subscribing to get more information on the Lawn Care and Landscaping Business.

I prefer the free ones of course  , but am not against paying for ones which are very helpful, however.

Please respond with your ideas...Thanks very much!

Thanks R&R...

I did and signed up for Turf, plus a Landscaping Publication on their site as well.

Any others out there?

I do like to read, especially over the winter months ,as I don't do the Snow Removal thing. :p

I get Lawn & Landscape magazine. They have many valuable articles that I have put to practice in my company. I get my subsciption for free but I don't remember how. Here is a link for their site.

Freshcut,

Don't hold your breath for Turf Magzine. I signed up with them 4 times this year thinking that they are skipping me somehow, but have not received anything from them yet.

Ironically, just before coming to LS just now, i emailed them and asked them if they are having problems or they just dont like me for some reason. :dizzy:

It will take 8-10 weeks from signing up before you will receive your first issue. As a matter of fact I received my November issue this am in the mail.

I'd call them then as you certainly should have received them by now. If you don't have the number let me know and if I have it I'll PM it to you.

I had the same problem. I sent an E-mail to one of the head sales reps with my information and that got my subscription going.

I still get the issue from the month before but it's free so I'm not complaning.

Pro has articles? Hmm, I must have missed that. ;) If you want some more informative magazines, look at the ones above in the post that has these. Grounds Maintenance, Lawn & Landscape are better ones. Landscape Management and Lawns and Irrigation are greaty ones, too. By the way, all these listed are free. That's the beauty of them They are all paid for by the sponsors ads - that is why there are so many of them. Pro however, much luike Turf, just has too few actual informative articles compared to all the ads. The info is just so broad and general, that I seldomly get anything out of them.

Freshcut, that will be enough until you realize that you are bored at home and go buy a plow to make some more money.

Hey George...Great idea, but I also have another job which would interfere with the plowing and would not be able to satisfy my potential customers the way I would like to; or the way they would deserve!

I guess I know my limitations...

freshcut....i agree with you. i am also doing this part time. my customers keep asking me if i will do their snow....

i tell them "no" since i am working from 7-5pm every day. if it snows at 11am, i can't get there until 7pm. they will be upset and wont like it.

you can make a lot of money, but you have to work at 3am as well.

are you working alone? how did you do this past year? how many years have you been doing this?

this was my first year....have only 4 accounts, but did a few landscaping projects that helped me pay off my equipment.

I also like PRO, and the quarterly magazine put out by ALCA, called ALCA Advantage, is a good one. It isn't directly related to lawn maintenance, but Tree Care Industry magazine has some great business-related articles.

Hi George,

This is my second full year in the business. We are doing very well. We currently look after about 30 properties (plus some Vacation Relief and Spring & Fall clean Ups, Aerations, etc. which are add ons). The 30 would break down as 10 Commercial (some quite large) and 20 Residential.

My 2 sons are my main employees and partners and they do the bulk of the grass cutting in the summer (I support the bigger jobs).

I am really involved in the Spring and Fall, plus I handle all the Pesticide, Fertilization, Aeration, Minor Landscaping, etc. during the season.

I am the General Manager of the Business and do almost all of the Administrative duties (Salaries, Quotes, Contract, Banking, Equipment Purchasing, Planning & Scheduling, etc).

We grew the business by 300% this year and should be able to double it next year without too much difficulty. :)

We are certainly not the cheapest guys around (and don't want to be :p ), but we try our very best to go the extra mile. I guess we like to use the concept of "Under Promise" and "Over Deliver".

I would be happy to meet you some time in Marine City or somewhere near there for a coffee and share some ideas, if you would like that!

Send me a private e-mail if you wish!
