Just curious as to how much fuel engines are burning per hour. I have a eXmark tthp with a 17hp kawi that consumes about .8 gallons per hour which equals 1.25 hours per gallon.
Any others??

Very Good Question scottishmaximus!

I don't currently have the foggiest idea...but it is certainly something I should be tracking!

I just seem to fill the tanks when they are low or empty, but I guess I should be paying more attention to this important detail!

Thanks for asking!

Not sure. What I can tell you is that we run mostly walk behinds. I demoed a Scag tiger Cub, and told the guy he could keep the machine. Thing sucked up over 10 gallons in just 1 day.I can get about a 2 days on our walk behinds. :)

Not sure on the actual terms of the Bobcat ZT Rider, but ours has the 25 HP Kohler and it holds 9 1/2 gallons and will go about 10-11 hours till it runs out.

Paponte,
What brand, make, model do you guys run and for how many hours do you run them per day? I have the exmark tthp 17hp kawi as well, but never really gauged the fuel consumption.

I have a 17 Kaw. on a Scag 72" W/B and don't have the foggiest idea how much fuel it uses because there is no hour meter but my 52" Tiger Cub uses about 1.25 gallons per hour running a 23 Kaw.

We have 72 inch Huslter with 2 tank each about 15 gals...myself and another guy can get 9 hours out of one tank each but my other crew can get 2 tanks in 9 hours mowing the same job.

I sometimes wonder why people drag up 4 year old threads and then I looked at the post count of the "dredging" member. 4 posts to date.

In any case...

1.2 gal per hour. Kohler 28 EFI on a 60" Dixie Chopper.

Kubota 21 and 22 horse diesels are pretty much the fuel sippers of the lawn world. at 3/4 throttle, they burn .5, even .4 gallons per hour in light load. at full throttle and heavy loads I have seen .6-.7.

the "big block gas rigs" are the other direction. I have witnessed 2.3 gallons per hour on a 31 horse briggs/vanguard, and I have heard others drinking that much on the 35,39 horse rigs out there. and others who claim less. It all depends on the load on the engine. when you really use the horsepower, the engine drinks heavily. light loads, much less.

the nice thing about diesels is the possibility of making your own bio-diesel for around 75 cents per gallon. I have a friend who makes 100 gallons per week for himself and a buddy. he spent 3 grand on the biodiesel making rig, and it runs just like diesel. he gets the waste oil to make it with free from from restaurants. He keeps track of his costs of lye and other ingredients, and he is averaging 77 cents per gallon.

1.2 gal per hour. Kohler 28 EFI on a 60" Dixie Chopper.

That sucks... They say these EFI mowers are supposed to use so much less fuel than one with a carb.

I never figured out the actual fuel usage, but I feel like my 25hp kohler uses less than my 28hp efi.

I still like the EFI much better than the old carbs, but them saying it uses less fuel is a scam...

---- Does anybody with a 31 or 35 hp vanguard want to reply? I am really interested to see what these get per hour. Also a 29 Kawi DFI would be cool if anybody has one...
