Fri. a.m. Rain turning into ice. Salted half the route.
Fri. p.m. Snow showers accumulating over an inch by afternoon rush hour. Did sidewalks and salted lots at stores with evening hours.
Sat. a.m. Plowed and salted complete route, 2-3 inches.
Sat.p.m. Forecast for an inch overnight. Again, salted and did walks at shops open Sat. night.
Sun. a.m. Woke up to 7-8" of fresh white stuff. Plowed and salted the entire route. Did a few one time plows.
Sun. p.m. REST
The damage- One fried control box for electric salter. Was able to "hot wire" it to complete the route.
One travel mug was found to have a defective lid. Found this out the hard way.
Thought of a few new items for the "been in the truck too long thread".

I only did 2 lots in the city, everyone else knew "All that snow " would melt before noon.came home worked on my plow and now "I CAN'T KEEP IT UP"
This was a heavy wet snow of 6-7" here in SE PA. It rained all day Saturday and then changed to wet snow Sat. nite and got real cold. Didn't get really snowing until 2AM Sun. Stopped around 6AM. I was out a 5 AM and it was a sheet of ice under the 7" of semi heavy snow. Traction was a problem until 10AM. Also this snow stuck like glue to the plow (BOSS) Even shaking the wings didn't free it. Had to shovel off 200lbs of snow a few times from the blade! Never had this happen before. I guess it was wet underneath and a cold blade = bad combination! I will try to clean and wax it next time. All in all though, a good weekend snow!
Sunday - zip, nada, goose egg.
Went to granddaughter's birthday party.
Maybe next time.

Pretty heavy wet snow here too, only 3" though. Finished up some of our commercials today(closed all weekend) with salt and minor plowing. All in all easy easy storm not much $$$$$$$$$$ though. Md is cursed we always miss the BIG one!!!!! Makes me frustrated.

I second that........traction was lousy at times here in Pa. It only really caused a problem for me once or twice.

I'll third that. Very heavy & slippery underneath, but it was also a very good day. Started our first job around 3am and finished up around 1:00pm. Slept for a few hours and went back out to clean up the first few. Now for the invoice party!! I love this part!!

Got 8.5 inchs here .First time out with new dodge dwr dump, plowed in 2wd drive 98% of the time ( the gmc that i had would cry and spin at 3"). Could not beleive how much better this truck plows better than than the gmc. The gmc was better on gas though.

We got anywhere from 8-12" depending on location. Most lots/drives were no problem. A couple had snow that was deeper, and MUCH heavier, but not wet. Kept liftin the blade up due to the snofoil. From 7am till noon was comin down at 1"/hr +. First real storm in years.
Scott,
Like that Dodge eh? Wish I had a plow on mine this storm. The Ford was a little light, bugt still did well.
Dave
Well,
I did great during the storm. 12 driveways total, earned around $300. The snow wasn't much of a problem for the snowblowers, except when i was doing a sidewalk, the plow had plowed up a chunk of road, and i hit it. went home, took the of shear pin out and put a bolt in. I'm getting a new shear pin today. The snapper handled the 6" great, i used the ariens. My dad used the snapper on a driveway across the street where he had to get in-between cars.
While doing one driveway on a street, two people came out and asked if i could so their driveway. Now when it snows i have about 8 people who call me on storms over 2", after yesterday i have about 10.
THINK SNOW,

Got a little freezing rain and sleet in Stamford on Saturday and 6" to 7 inches of snow on top of that overnight into Sunday morning.
Came down real heavy between 3:00 am and 5:00 am., and had to pull over and keep cleaning the ice/snow buildup from the windshield and wipers.
Finally got to use magic on our lots, worked great... Lots were black and wet this morning ( temps. between 12 and 18 degrees at 7:00 am) for the most part. Only problem areas were where cars never moved and the plows couldn't properly do ther job... But since this is a hospital, we realize we are never gonna have totally empty lots any time orf the day or night...
We do what we cna do, the best way we can do it!
About 6" of wet snow. Started plowing at 4:00am finished around 3:30 pm. Ran off the edge of a new residential drive and had right rear tire spinning in mud the other 3 spinning on ice. A little salt did the trick. Customer was very understanding since I'd never seen his drive before. He paid in cash and told me to add him to my route. Went out today to do some clean-up at appts. after people left for work. Now its time to join the invoice party.

Well we got 4" along our soth coast and up to 10" in The I park and surounding area of Norwich that we plow in. The downtown area only got about 6". It snowed very hard from 4 am till 11 am, and then sun came out. It was nice and fluffy and powdery. My Gm is by far the best truck I have evr plowed with, with the G-80 locker and weight the truck will move alot of snow with out using 4wd. That may have been the problem with that GMC that slplow owned.
How did we do, from 4 am till 11 am were fine. Then I had a driver back into a building and ruined a window and section of wall, that is what INS is for tho, called the claim in this am.
At 4 pm another driver called to inform me that he was stuck , slid off a driveway. Finally got him out at 9 pm, 5 very long and cold hours. Good thing AAA doesnt know that it was a commercial truck.
Called in other subs to finish driveway route, and salt properties, since I couldnt leave the stuck truck, and the truck that was stuck had my other salter in it.
Anyway this morning, we did our church lot, and that was fun. 8" of powder and nothing in my way. It was actually fun, and yes I do it for free.

Dino, you are right about the g-80 my truck did not have it but I had plenty of weight with the spreader full in it but that was not the reason I got rid of the truckand gm.I just got tired of being towed. 42,000 is not a lot of miles to have had all the problems that i had with that truck. I was also a GM man, I had three GMs that were in the 80s (82, 85 and 87). All three trucks put together with over 100,000 miles on each of them, had less problems!!! And if GM kept them like they were in the 80s, I would still be a GM man today. Anybody with all the problems that I encountered with the truck, would have done the same thing I did. We paid alot of $$$ brand new to have the problems that we encountered with that truck. Also, we could not lemon it because it was always something different but tried and true it was always SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT> I am not going to down all GM trucks, just the one I had!
Wife got up sunday morning and said it had snowed, asked her how much and she said about an inch.
I got up and looked and now I know why she loves me (she under estimates big time) : )
We had about 5-6 ".
Went and did my whole route and had my brother do the walks while I plowed the drives.
A few people had shovaled before I got there so that saved me some time.

DanG,
I thought I had the only wife that measured that way!
Well anyway she shoveled the walkway for when I returned home from my busy day at the office...

we had 6-8" of dry powder,it stopped by 9 am,the sun came out,and the wind picked up,so we got drifts on open drives and lanes. My fisher 7.5 minute mount had its first problem this storm, the base mount loosened up from the housing,so it leaked out about a pint before i caught it,just needed to tightnr 2 13mm head bolts, and top it off.No truck problems at all,and my new powertrax locking differentail is awesome, especially with a full V-box,no 4wd needed when its full.

"I thought I had the only wife that measured that way! "
What do you guys expect, you tell her 8, she finds 4... ;)
LOL
We had 5" here after 14" of ice. Light & fluffy for the first couple of hours & then it got heavy after the sun was on it for a little while. Can't wait to replace my dead F350 because its been a pain relying on subs and the 2 other trucks. One sub has a Ford 7000 Dump truck with a 10 foot city type plow & he was going to blow out all of the big runs in the big lots. An hour into it one of the angle cylinders split right down the length of it. By the time he torched all of the pins and stuff to remove it from the plow he couldn't even put it back on the road as a straight plow. Darn! That truck can really clear some snow. Saw the first Protech in use in my immediate service area. Glad to see one of the big guys in my area getting smart. And at the opposite end of the spectrum, I saw a homeowner using a lawnmower type of plow connected to a hand truck. He just walked down his driveway like carrying a load of boxes & windrowed the snow off to the side. I thought it was cute & pretty smart way to not shell out the money for a snowblower, & not break the back.
