I am going to purchase a new Walker within the next 2 weeks. For my application the 20hp Kohler with a 42" GHS deck has been the main recomandation by the dealers aroung here. Does anyone else own a 20hp? Are they powerful enough? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mike,

I have a Walker with 42" deck and 16 hp, it has plenty of power for most applications. With the 20 hp you should have no trouble at all.

I have a 20 HP and run a 62" deck with no problems.

Mike,
I have a Walker with a 54" Sidedischarge deck w 20HP Kolher and have plently of power. I'm sure you will have ponies to spare with only a 48" deck.
Good luck with your new Walker!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your soon to be new purchase! The only problem you'll have now is not wanting to get off of it:)
Also, once you learn to manuver, an easy thing to learn, your customers will be impressed. Then, when they notice the quality of cut they will be thrilled. Have fun!
p.s. Practice the handling! I find that one hand on the steering levers and one on the speed control works best...and be real careful going downhill. Do not use the steer levers to slow you down. Use the speed control.
(I speak from experience).

I have a Walker 20HP with a 48" deck. I have seen nothing that gives the quality of cut that the Walker gives. You can't go wrong.

Scag costs too much, and that machine has only been out for 1 year, Walker's have been around for 20 years.

you guys with walkers, does the ghs work well in the growing season when its wet/damp and tall,or does the vacuum hose clog up. and do you ever have problems electricly when its damp out. thanks for the feedback.

When it is real wet you can mow but you have to slow down and most importantly clean the screen in the collector. The screen lets air flow and if it is clogged then the air stops and the chute clogs.

Electrically I have had no problems with dampness and I have the 26EFI that is all electric. Just my experience.
The Walker beats the crap out of a Skag anyday. Quality of cut is second to none. Not the fastest in the lineup but it has its place on my trailer.

You'll love the Walker, I have 2 and I work by myself. Found a 98 for sale last spring, 20 HP 48" GHS and 62" decks....was $3650....I couldn't pass up that price. The 20 HP has plenty of power for the 48s 54" and 62" decks I run. The 48" GHS can clog in wet grass if you go to fast, but seems to work fine if you mow the yard weekly. One down side is mowing with the deflector on dry windy days will cover you with dust and grass. Never had any electrical problems.

be sure to get the speed up kit. You'll need it.

are you buying walkers to save time,or less walking ,because if you have to slow down how are you saving time from a walk behind? and would you recommend a walker on a big commercial lot where you do not have to bag. thanks for all the helpfull input.out!

My knees are toast, I buy equipment to ride not walk. I made my own sulky for my Toro wbh so I very seldom walk behind it. I wouldn't buy the Walker GHS if all I did was large open lots. I might buy the Walker SD model but I would have to try it out first.
