Can anyone tell me why mower seats are so expensive. I have a dixie chopper and called the dealer today. To see about purchaseing a new seat and $350.00 was the quote he gave me. I Could buy a lazy boy for almost that much. Is there any links for mower seats out there. I need one.

What model DC do you have? Are you replacing an all white seat or a gray seat? The all white seats are worth the extra money. They are much more comfortable than the gray seat or any other after market seat you can get that is cheaper.
Your butt will thank you for the better seat after a long day. Especially if you have a bumpy lawn or two.

The Lazy Boy option doesn't seem to bad an alternative!

Dixie dealer quoted me another seat for $500 has lumbar something or other. Yes Eric I have the thick white ones on the othe two. The one I'm replaceing is a white thin one and it's hard on the butt!!! However $350.00 to $500.00 is a bit much. Any after market ones. I'm not trying to be cheap but the metal has poked through the armrest of one of the others.

Can a canvas or upolstery shop fix yours? If not Northern hydrolics has a lot of seats, you will probably have to change the mounts to make them work. Also they are mail order and you cant see how hard they are before you buy.

You could see what an upholsery shop would charge to recover them. I have to have a comfy seat, so I have the $300 seat on one and the $500 one (adjustable lumbar) on the other and to me it's worth every penny of it. Over the years, your body will thank you and any new seat is a write off for repairs.

The DC factory has replacement seat covers also. When I got my mower it had a tear in the back of the seat where it was hitting the alternator belt cover. The dealer ordered it and replaced it under warranty :)
