just dropped my girl off at school the other day when i looked at a customers lawn... its been 2 months since we last cut and the stripes are still terrific. does any other mower leave as good stripes?

I was under the impression that just about every other commercial mower left a better stripe than a Bob-Cat- just kidding. I have an Exmark mower that stripes like you wouldn't believe, even bermuda, if you can believe it.

The old and now discontinued Scots riding mowers would out-stripe just about anything out there. I know it's hard to believe but..

Strange but true, I saw it with my own eyes.

I like the Scags. They leave a good stripe. I even added the stripe kits to my Scags for certain grasses that don't stripe to good. I think most of the newer mowers stripe pretty good anyway.

I am looking for a striper kit for my walk behind. I have a 48" Snapper Hydro. I don't think Snapper has a striper kit for their mowers. I was thinking of purchasing a striper kit from Scag and making it fit. I have one question. I went to their web site and was looking at the striping page. Does the rollers actually roll on the ground or do they stay off the ground at about a 1/4". I don't know if someone sells an after market striper kit for lawn mowers, if so let me know so that I can check them out.

Thanks

Is your Lesco a fixed deck? How do you RIP the grass up? My float deck stripes over the winter too. I come back in spring and there they are.

What's the best way to stripe? How is it done without at stripe kit? It appears that the right mower makes a difference. Is the front or back of the deck lowered to make the stripe or is a combination of right mower and right blades? Sorry for all the questions but if I'm gonna pay big money for a commercial mower I want to know if a stripe kit is necessary. :dizzy:

Thanks

If you want a real good stripe you might want a stripe kit, but i just stay in straight lines and do opposite paths and the way the grass is cut and laid by the blades ( which i keep sharp) leaves a very noticeable nice looking stripe.

Adjust those front rollers up a notch or two. Also check to make sure they have not siezed up and stopped rolling.

My Ferris and Exmark are awesome stripers! Added a full width deck roller and ProSlide to the Exmark, nothing can outstripe that puppy! LOL. The Ferris Z does great with no kit, but may add one this winter for the more stubborn grasses. I have several lawns I can see good stripes in 3 directions on them right now, middle of winter. All the Exmark Z's used in my town do a good job, and theres one company that uses GrassHopper mid deck Z's that do a good job striping the nicer lawns, on the weedier lawns I don't think they leave as nice of a stripe but could be technique too. I'm well pleased with the striping and cut of both of my mowers.... Exmark TTHP 52", Ferris IS1000Z 52".

Exmark. Dixies can lay some pretty nice stripes if they are configured correctly...
