Any good books on basic engine repair & maintenance books? Like Engines for Dummies, etc. Thanks

I just finished reading Small Engine and Repair by Briggs and Stratton and found it very helpful. Lots of general info, maintenance tips and more advanced stuff too. Although it features B & S it is still helpful with other mowers. Also, it focuses on lawn mower but touches on 2-cycle engines too.

Hope it helps!

Briggs and Stratton small engine care and repair is really the best for a beginner. It explains all the systems of an engine and how they work and have maintenance and basic repair tips and also more advanced repair. Its written in simple terms so its easier to understand. You can order one from a B&S dealer for about $20. Part No. 274041

Sears carries Briggs, Tecumseh, and some Kohler manuals. They're all $10 each in Sears parts dept.

You can download Kohler Engine Service Repair Manuals at Kohler's web site for FREE. These are VERY detailed manuals.

Chiltons has a small engine book also. It covers many different brands of small engines. Has a lot of good basics in it, however it is hard to beat the OEM repair manuals.
