View Full Version : How much if any are you still owed for 2004?

With only one day left in the year, I'm wondering how much is still owed to you. Very surprisingly, we still have a small sum of money out there. We won't lose sleep about it, but we will get it. Normally we don't have problems getting our money, but circumstances arose, and it seems like we are still owed $344.50. Not a large amount, but enough to pay a heating bill with.
One customer had a stroke, and we are waiting on a relative to pay, one lady went into a personal care home unable to care for herself so we are once again waiting on a relative, and the last lady just befuddles me. She never paid late before, so I'm not sure why she isn't paying this time.
How much do you guys still need to collect?

I still have 95.00 outstanding but still mowing a few yards here. And 500.00 on one commercial account for month of December. Usually collect on the 15th of the following month.

What's the size of your company and what is your secret to collections. I'm owed 1000's most of which i will never collect.

There is no secret. We deal with a lot of elderly folks, close to 100 accounts, and although there are downfalls to having a large amount of elderly customers, one thing though, they are for the most part fast payers.
No, we are not a large company at all. We have close to 100 accounts, but by industry standards and in the scheme of things, we are not a large company. However, I let no one slide, when a problem arises, I am on the phone or at their door. Matt lets me handle getting the money, he says I play a better "bad guy" than him. Unfortunately, sometimes it does take hounding someone to get paid, but I will do it when necessary. We also are at the point in our business that if a customer doesn't pay on time for a few consecutive months, we get rid of them. The longer you keep a problem late payer around, the harder it is to get your money each month.

Right now I have about $4350 out but it isnt technically late until 1-5-04. With christmas and new year holidays people are generally slow to pay in December and January

$3,021.15 is over 30days past due. My goal is to collect $2,000 of that. I sent out the letters today suggesting that they contact their attorney concerning the legal liability of the referenced debt.

Then I told them If any such legal action is taken and results in Judgment against them, a Writ of Execution may be issued against their attachable assets. Any legal action taken may result in additional expenses, including service of process and other court costs; thereby increasing their debt and overall financial obligation.

I have to get tough and develop a little discipline in theis area. Late payers rarely change their ways. It's very hard for me to walk away from customers even though I know it's the thing to do. It feels like you are walking away from an oppurtunity to make money. In reallity you are walking away from an opportunity to lose money. A change is going to come - Ottis Redding

$130 that I will never see. I think the house is going into foreclosure, so no chance of me getting paid. Out of 30 continuing clients I don't think that is bad.

I'm happy to say I only have $35 outstanding, but is likely going to end up unpaid. I'll persue it for a bit yet with a few more phone calls, and maybe a knock on the door, but with such a small amount I've got better things to do to get ready for next season.

Zero - everyone is paid up! Last check came in yesterday. I did drop one late payer late in the year cause I figured he'd already run out of good excuses and I didn't want to force him to come up with a bad one.

Happy New Year, y'all!

Two years in the business and I have never had anyone "not pay". From what I read I am pretty lucky. We do not use any contracts. And its true, older people are the first to pay each month, realtors are the last.

OMG my number his higher then Rods. The amount is around 30 k perhaps a little more I probably have 15-20k of it on my desk or in my mail box but I will wait till Jan to start sorting it out. For me it makes sense to wait 1-2 weeks at the end of the quarter till the next one begins. It does not save any money in taxes but it does buy you another 3 months before you need to cut those dreaded checks. Its a nice loan and when the season begins every cent counts. Of that amount 2 k is going to bust my balls to collect some of it is owed from 2003.

I figured it was total including invoices and I have not billed for Dec yet so I estimated what was owed for that month I knew I had 22k owed to me on Dec 1st and I havenít cashed any checks at all this month just donít feel like paper work atm. And all that matters to me was to know the business has enough cash in the account when I saw that I was good. I did not and do not feel any urgency the checks can wait till Monday or perhaps Tuesday hehehe.

Yea, I have not billed for december yet either (isn't much). All I have coming in now is Monthly contracts. I have money owed from November that was due on the 15th, But I don't consider it late until 30 days. We run statements on 30 days past due only.
