For the last 4 hours or so it's been raining and freezing. The first pic is a pinoak in my front lawn I planted a couple years ago, behind it is a river birch. Then again behind it is some elm trees. The second pic is some elm trees. As nightfall is coming it is going to get worse. I took a broom to the pinoak and got most the ice off and standing back up fairly straight.

Yeah, its going to get nasty, not like it was in 2002 but bad nonetheless, up north in Atchison and St Joe there are getting as much ice as we are + 3-6 inches of snow tommorow on top of the ice

Wichita KS. Yes packerbacker....I remember the 2002. I stepped on on the front porch about 4am and it sounded like fire-crackers going off in the far distance.. It was actually tree branches snapping and breaking. Even now I could hear something snapping or cracking every 30 seconds or so.

Better move all vehicles out from underneath the trees!!! That second pic was right next to my driveway, where I usually park my Lincoln.

I hope its not a repeat. We has lost power for a couple days then. I had to curl up with my wolf/malamute just to stay warm. I learned my lesson though and bought a generator. And i just had 2 cord of wood delivered last week. I hate working in this crap to. You get soaking wet and the chill doesnt leave you for a while

Here in Overland Park the tree limbs are starting to sag. With all the Bradford pears in the area I'm sure we will see downed limbs in the morning like 2002, but not as bad. Some of the schools are already canceling for tomorrow. I hope it's not a repeat either we were out of power for 5 days.

I live right above St. Joseph and we had freezing rain all day yesterday and mist most of today. Now there is a sleet/snow mix coming down. Tomorrow 6-8" of snow on top. Should be interesting for all of us. Did I mention the winds that are suppose to move in eary tomorrow, producing blizzard like conditions. KC is only an hour away from us and I remember the 2002 ice storm, worst I have ever seen. I never seen more tree cleanups at one time in my life. There was companies in from as far away as Texas.

Looks like this is setting up to be an interesting 2005.

I live just west of KC. It's getting pretty bad here also. I have some of those s*&%$# elm trees too. I keep hearing the branches break off and land on the roof of my house. With the luck I have a big one will break off and go through the roof pretty soon. Oh well, guess that's what insurance is for

Walker,
Are you located in Wichita? In the Kansas City area we didn't get hit as bad as expected. I only lost power for about 5 hrs instead of 5 days in 2002. But yet the schools are closed again tomorrow. It seems whenever there is any accumulation we won't have school. I understand yesterday but the roads are already clearing up. But heck, I'm not complaining.

Walker,
Are you located in Wichita? Yes, I am in Wichita. Looks like everything has calmed down. As long as the wind doesn't pick up we will be ok. It's suppose to warm up in the next couple days. I will start my cleanup probably this weekend.
