west coast cool season grass?

i think they use alot of st. augestine out in california. will a cool season blend survive in thier climate? a blue, fescue, rye mix?

I've heard from the members on this site that fescue will grow in hawaii as long as it is mowed over 3". I haven't tried planting it yet because I'm afraid that it won't do well and I'll have to come back and re-seed it.
