Mudmower

Just found out I lost a bid on a large commercial mowing job. With all the talk of lowballers, someone tell me how this guy is making any money.

Bid was for nine mowings, once a month, starting April 1, on roughly 275 acres of county right of ways (road, ditch, a couple of land parcels). Could use large (15'-18' batwing mower) on about 40 to 60 acres. The rest would have to be a 10'er max because of the lay of the land (obstacles, slopes). Would also REQUIRE the use of a large boom mower to reach multiple parcels.

Winning bid was for $68,000.00..........TOTAL :dizzy:

$68,000 divided by 9 (times mowed) = $7,555.00
$7,555.00 divided by 275 (acres mowed) = $27.47 PER ACRE ;)

I figure about 15 working days to complete each month (3 weeks). This may seem like a long time but the mowing is not straight line. Multiple objects, slopes, weather. I thought I had cut to the bone at a shade under $39.00 per acre. Bidder was called before the board, and every line of the proposal was gone over. They also checked all of his equipment and references.......

Oh well, live and learn
