I operate a pest control company in southeastern Pennsylvania. One of my customers, a property maintenance firm, asked my company to submit a proposal for landscape maintenance. I have another company that will be mowing, mulching, debri removal, etc., but my company will be applying fertilizers and insecticides. My question is what are average rates per acre, square foot, or 1000 square foot for this type of job since I only know structural pest control.

The maintenance company wants...

Lawns-
-pre-emergence crabgrass control 1 time
-turf fertilizer 3 times per season minimum of 3lbs of actual nitrogen per 1000 square feet/season
-liquid broadleaf control 2 times

Shrubs, evergreen and groundcover beds-
-pre-emergence weed control 1 time
-fertilizer 1 time
-appropriate insecticide for insect control

Trees and lawn evergreens-
-dormant oil for insect control 1 time

Miscellaneous-
-curbs and cracks weed control 4 times per season.

I have the product costs, but what are average percentages for commercial work?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Mike,
First off you'll need liscense Catergories 6,7,18 to do this work.
Find out your cost per 1000 ssqft.
Determine your labor time.
Calculate your labor costs.
Add your material and labor costs and multiply it by 2 or 2.25 that will get you your price.

Philk17088,

Thank-you for you assistance! I have had the books on 6, 7, and 18 but haven't taken the tests, yet. I wanted to poll existing customers about their interest in a lawn maintenance program. And, learn more about the management and expenses/profits in this end of the control product industry. I used your bidding method and the figure was relatively close to the middle of the 2 and 2.5 figures. Seeing the results from your method relieved some worries of an overpriced bid, because I the company needed the bid by 4:00 Monday and it was already submitted when I saw your post.

Thanks,

Mike

The 3# rate is probably a yearly total. That seems to be the big thing with apartment complexes lately. Somebody spec'd it once and it seems to be forever on their bid sheets.

Yes, the 3# is per 1000 square foot per season. Hey Ken are you located in Collegeville? My company is SouthEastern Environmental.
