I , for one , have suggested this many times .
Even though I sent as many as 6 back to the factory with defects , which they fixed quickly .
Now this ....................................

CPSC, SHURflo Announce Recall to Repair Backpack Sprayers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces
the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below.
Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless
otherwise instructed.

Name of product: ProPack Rechargeable Electric Backpack Sprayers

Units: About 6,100

Manufacturer: SHURflo LLC, of Cypress, Calif.

Hazard: The power plug can corrode after extensive exposure to water and
corrosive chemicals, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of power plug
failures and one report of a minor fire. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled SHURflo ProPack Model SRS-540 rechargeable
electric backpack sprayers have manufacture dates before September 2004.
The model number and manufacture date are printed on a label affixed to
the motor bracket, which can found by removing the battery pack. The
sprayers have a clear or black hose, aluminum spray lance, and a white
body. The words "SHURflo" and "Pro Pack" are printed on a label on the
front of the unit.

Sold at: Pest control, turf care, sanitary maintenance and tool and
equipment distributors nationwide from July 2003 through August 2004 for
between $170 and $215.

Manufactured in: United States.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the backpack sprayers immediately
and contact SHURflo to receive a free repair kit.

Thanks for the info. I guess that like any other new piece of equipment there are bound to be bugs. It would be a shame if they simply stopped making a pretty handy backpack. I'll send off for the retro-fix for all of mine.

Vegomatic40 - I'm thinking about getting one of the shurflo electric backpacks. Sounds like you have several and think they are well worth it as long as they get the problem fixed. The price is a lot better than the Echo shr-210. What's your opinion on which one to buy?

look into the rocketsprayer.com , it may be better .
beefed up shurflo pump and battery .

Kfish-The shurflo's are a pretty decent backpack. Weight is a factor (battery, pump etc.) that you have to be willing to sacrifice for the consistent pressure/volume that you get from these rigs. The spray wand is a bit flimsy and may require a retrofit if used daily. Overall I give it a B-.
