Let me see if I got this right, you said you heard it running over the phone (phone must of been in the way)and when he dropped it of the traler(must of been a strong guy) you heard it running. Now it won't crank. Wrong key??? Wrong fule??? Wrong tractor??? Wrong Bar??? The big guy STOLE the starter??? Good luck.

I really don't intend this to sound as mean spirited as it does, but..... There is so many things wrong with this whole post that it has to be a joke! The tractor was to far away to actually go look at but close enough for delivery, I don't think that Ford even made an 8N in 1964, 8N's run on gasoline not deisel, and somehow either the battery or starter went out on the trip to drop it off.
Are you sure that this is how it went?

I filled it up with desel fule

8N's run on gasoline not deisel,

Nailed it...

Wrong fuel fool. To my knowledge, the never made an 8N that ran on diesel. And as Kerrturf said, they did'nt even make the 8N in 1964.

I am cutting trees to plant more potatoes. I will have stumps in the spring i will have to burn them if i cant use the tractor and it will take a long time.

Ford didn't make the 8N in 1964, didn't make any of them to run on diesel no matter what year.

Pulling stumps with this tractor is very dangerous. It literally takes one second for the tractor to spin over and crush the driver. Many, many good men have killed themselves doing this.
See the attached link for one recent story of someone who nearly crushed himself last week.
Use the right tool for the right job.

As for your mechanical issues ... you'd do well to find someone in your area who is familiar with ford tractors. Have him over for a beer and ask him to show you around your new tractor.

Once you learn the basics, you'll be much better off.

Good luck, be safe.

Guys in Craig's defense, he want's to know how much to fix it. He already knows that he put the wrong fuel in it. You guys must not speak WISCONSIN.

8n not the best stump puller you could get, Rent a dozer for a day, to many ppl have dies flipping a tractor over trying to pull stumps. Side distributor or front will help you distinguish age of tractor.

Cheep schooling. Ron told me this was the only deisel 8n made and it was $7200. it is suppused to be real strong = to a 80hp but in a small pakage. he wont retern my calls i think he is out of town. i cut an electric cord to jump from tha batterie. I can hear the starter crank but cant find it where is it. Still wont start. Is that button between my legs is the high beams.

Craig, rent a backhoe to pull the stumps.

All I can say is, I hope you know more about growing potatoes than you do about tractors. If the guy told you that it was an 8N desiel, and cost $7200.00, you were'nt ripped off, you were "suckered". Good luck.

If you bought it to pull stumps, you need help. I have tried pulling 12 inch stumps with my 125 HP tractor and all it did was pull the front end off the ground. You better hope the chain does not break or it will come back and kill you. 8N's were all gas. The were made in the early 50's not 64. I think you are looking at 30 HP not 80. And the average price for a good running one is 1500-3000 and most come with a few attachments.

Maybe this was a Ford Jubilee instead of an 8N. By the way, things get dumber and dumber on this forum, I'll bet this guy is giggling reading all these responses.

I got a great deal. One of a kind, the only desael in a 1964 8n. I just want to see why i cant get her to fire. Its 40deg here so no probelm with that. Just got back from the potato shed and she turned over, but wont fire. Maybe the spark plugs should be replaced.

Made starting in 39 and made right up till they came out with the jubilee, I believe.
A good rebuilt one would have a hard time getting much over 20 hp. most uused one have 16-18 hp. They were a good tractor for what they were built for which was to replace the horse team
